My research for the amount I was just charged is the same amount I paid for the physical PHB back in the middle of September, which I eventually received. So, this looks like a double charge.
The PHB is the same retail price as the DMG, so it could be for the DMG
Wizards failed it's customers by not telling us what this charge was for. This causes (as shown by BKThomson's response) confusion and concern.
As a company, Wizards does not appear to have learned a single thing from it's last mistake and is continuing to botch a process that instead of delighting it's best core customers, disgusts us.
Not that I expect senior leadership to comment, or even care.
That was my first thought, but when I looked at the order number, it referenced the original bundle order marked canceled, and the dollar amount was the same for the updated PHB-only order. Still, it may be the DMG. I opened a ticket anyway—not expecting much out of it—to see if I could get any clarification. I'll keep an eye out for any additional charges up to the release of the DMG.
I think they charge when they are ready to ship, I got my PHB 2 weeks before release in the mail and was charge right before shipping, so I assume they are doing it again, and will do it next year for the MM. I agree their communication is lacking on this front. From what I gather those of us who bought the bundled got precharged then refunded the ammount for the physical books. and will now get charged for those books when they are ready to ship. I dont like this system myself because credit card infos could change from mid summer 2024 to early 2025, causing payment problems.
Marketplace shows my order for the PHB from September when everything went wrong as $41.26
Whatever I got charged for last night only came to $39.84.
I’m inclined to believe that this was the charge for the DMG. I don’t know for sure, because the Marketplace is only showing my fixing the problem PHB order, and nothing else. But the price difference, as small as it is, makes me think that I’m not being double charged for the book I already have (or getting charged for a second copy of that specific book that they’re going to send me).
I have mystery charge on my account from Wizards for $40.83. It appears to be a pre-auth charge. Possible for the DMG? But that's not supposed to drop until Nov 12.
I had some small hope that whoever was in charge of this rollout had learned anything whatsoever, but it looks like they just decided to double down on creating a bad experience for customers who came to them loyal and willing to spend a lot of money.
I am at the point where I am about to start individually contacting senior leadership. Poor Sam in customer support does not deserve to hear how mad I am at the company.
Master tier subscribers who pre-ordered will have access to the book on October 29th
I got money back from Paypal, so if you purchased that way, raise a dispute. Be sure to include screenshots of your emails and your posting here for evidence of attempting to get in contact.

Only the digital version on dndbeyond is supposed to be available October 29th. The physical versions aren’t supposed to be early.
If I got charged 39.84 for the DMG, in October, for a ship date in November - why isn't it showing up in my orders list on D&D beyond?
Because the way they arranged the bundle orders is messed up. First you have to make sure you’re looking at the correct Order History page depending on your order date, then you have to go into your bundle orders where it will say your digital books are complete and your unshipped physical books should be processing or pending (I forget the exact wording) until they are delivered.
You're lucky. My order history after april 30 2024 is totally blank.
You have to click on the thing that says click here for orders after April 30th 2024. It will take you to a different order history page on the dndbeyond marketplace.
So I am hoping all things have been corrected. It appears it has. So it has my PHB shown as cancelled, but the charge shows up in another order, and I did receive the PHB eventually. Now I am on line to getting rung up for the $40.83 for the DMG once they are ready to ship. So I may very well have it back the way it was supposed to be. I will hope they move away from this and make it a Buy It All Right Now In Full, so all that is left is for them to mail the books. Thank you for sorting it out WOTC, sorry for the line spacing, I could not edit it out….
I hope this helps explain what others who did not experience this see.

Got charged as well... still don't have my PHB. No email, no notification, no nothing. This is beyond ridiculous.
I’m seeing a minor difference for me.

Contact the Better Business Bureau and use Hasbro and not Wizards for the company to complain to.
I have also been charged again, presumably for the DMG. There is no record of my order in my DDB account.
Ted from Nerd Immersion did a video about this a month ago. He might be convinced to do another video if enough people reached out to him.

where are you seeing a ship date?
D&D since 1984

my order history only shows the completed PHB, not even the digital items now.

Open your orders history and click filter.
Click to show more than 3 months.
3 months is the default, and most of us ordered the bundle in June. That's why people keep saying their order history is gone.
