I am trying to have my son build a chracter for a campain that I will be running using the purchased 2024 PHB and 2024 DMG. Looks like the character builder has not been updated with that content. We noticed it when he was trying to select the "Guide" background. It isn't in there. We even tried to create a custom background, but the available options are so limited that it cannot be duplicated as shown in the 2024 PHB. Am I doing something wrong? Please help...

It sounds like your son's account doesn't actually have access to the 2024 Player's Handbook and is only seeing options from the Free Rules. Did you purchase it on your account or his? If it's not on his account, you'll have to set up a campaign with content sharing and he'll need to make the character in that campaign.
The 2024 PHB was purchased on my account and shared content through a campaign I created. He could access the literature, its just the character builder that didn't seem to see it.

You'll also need to make sure he's creating the character in the campaign. The character needs to be linked to the campaign before he'll see any of the options from content sharing.
Yep I made sure. I copied the link to the campaign, logged out of my account, logged in to his account, and pasted the link in a browser. I verified that the character showed up in my campaigns on my account.

FYI when I go to edit his character in my campaign, the character setup options show that everything is enabled, including 3rd party content, even though I only shared the 2024 PHB through the campaign. And there was no option to turn on 2024 content. So it appears that not only does 2024 content not exist in the character builder, but content sharing doesn't affect anything in the character builder. I'm starting to get the impression that the builder does not work as advertised.

The character builder does absolutely support content sharing and the 2024 content; many people have been using it just fine for months now. It really seems like either your account or your son’s has a specific issue that you may need to contact support directly about.
When I click on support forum, this is where it takes me. I thought I was talking to support. If this is not support, where do I go to contact actual support?
No, it's all there and works fine. However, sometimes permissions and entitlements get a bit stuck. So let's go through all the steps:
You need a Master tier sub to enable Content Sharing, so ensure this is active and has not lapsed and went through.
You need to enable Content Sharing in the campaign. Sometimes it may be necessary to turn this off then back on again. This refreshes sharing permissions.
Characters need to be made in the campaign that has sharing enabled. They characters need to have the relevant toggles on in the Home tab of the builder.
Content Sharing is limited to 5 campaigns, each campaign can only have 12 players and up to 99 total characters. Ensure you are within the limit.
Finally, you and everyone else in the campaign need to ensure their entitlements are in sync. Go to Accounts > Licenses ( link: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses ). It will either say you're in sync or there will be a black button to re-sync. If you have the button, click it. Then refresh the character pages and try turning sharing off then on.
If all of the above has been checked you have a very unusual and unprecedented error. You will need to contact support using the Contact Us link at the bottom of any page ( link: https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360055233654-Contact-Information ) and submit a support ticket. Include all details, links and info you can.

Yep all this has been verified. I think I have been talking with you on Reddit as well. I also discussed with someone on Discord. Everyone is saying that I have evrything set up correctly. I am more than happy to share a link to the campaign so that someone who is willing can try to make a character and observe the issues I am describing. I tried starting a support ticket, but I think they are overwhelmed atm because my ticket number is still not showing up the 'My Requests" part of the support page.
Just because I haven't seen someone mention it, have you checked that they're using the 2024 version of the class? I'm not using the new rules, so I'm not sure if it's possible that maybe if you select the older class version, the 2024 backgrounds won't show up or something.
Okay so I just checked and there is no selection option when creating a chracter through a shared link to a campaign. However, I did notice that if I create the character through the DM account, and make sure to uncheck all the content options on the chracter home/setup screen, the 2024 content appears. So as a workaround I think I will have to let my players use the DM account to pre make their characters and then share the campaign link to their accounts and just have them select the premade characters. Not perfect, but better than me trying to create my own excel character sheet.

I think your son was just looking in wrong places because even if you didn't buy the PHB some 2024 will always appear, since some of it is free and is the new default standard of D&D now. The site doesn't have code to distinguish accounts outside of access to the premium content, so if the free stuff will not appear then that is a bug that would affect every account on the site. Since that it is not happening - then the only logical conclusion is that you or your son are either not looking in the wrong place or being confused about the 2024 content. For instance certain subclasses will not appear if you have selected 2014 version of a class instead of the 2024 version of the class, etc.

After refreshing the link again, I signed out of my account, signed into my son's account, and used the link to create a character. Where you would normally be able to select the source material that the builder is pulling from for classes/backgrounds, I only see 2014 core rules. I wish I could put screenshots in this forum

In that case maybe go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
And check that your entitlements are synced. If they're not, click the button there to sync them.
Also make sure that on that page your subscription properly says "Master" tier.
