I'm looking to make a magic item that when equipped adds a single spell to the prepared spell list of the player that wears it. While I know how to make one and set a spell of my choosing to it I was curious if there was a way to make the item with all the spells, adding a drop-down box with all the spells in it so that I could roll and have the spell be randomly determined and choose the spell in front of my players
What you request is not possible with the magic item homebewing tool.
Magic items can only add specific spells, not user choice, and cannot be random that way. Magic items can only add spells as either "at will" or "use item charges" - it cannot be added to the user's 'prepared' spells or use spell slots.

Shame, would be pretty cool if it could. For reference game mechanic wise the item would add a spell to the prepared list, I don't need it to do it functionally on dnd beyond. I'll just have to predetermine what spell it is through rolling my own dice in prep and make it in dnd beyond after the fact.
Thanks for your help
