In fact, trying out several different classes, each of the archetype drop-down menus (whether at level 3, 7, 11, what-have-you) all give only one option. It seems as if the character builder is stuck on basic rules, even though I bought the Wayfinder/Eberron book and one of the players in my party/campaign bought the PHB. It does allow me the different races (like warforged) but won't give any options for the archetypes.
Double check that you have access to the PHB and that it isn't "compendium content only" access. (not sure how to check that aside from doing what you're doing) If you recently obtained access to the PHB, try refreshing the character page and/or creating a new character. If those don't help, link the character so people with access can investigate easier.
If I click on Resources, then Player's Handbook, I can access every page, every chapter. I've refreshed the character builder page, I've even logged out and logged back in. I've created 4 different test characters (rogues) and never am I able to choose anything other than Thief for the Roguish Archetype.
How do I link the character? Do you mean make it public (that's what it is currently set at).
I figured it out. Since the other player bought the PHB, I can view it all I want, but I can't choose the Assassin archetype unless I create a character within the campaign.
Same problem here for me. Purchased the PHB 2014 Version 3 weeks ago. And can't choose the Assassin subclass in character creation. In my account, under Licenses, all books are listed as "Sourcebook".

Do you have the legacy toggle on?
Did you pick the legacy Rogue class? The new class is in the free rules, but won't let you pick the old version of a subclass that has been updated.

Ok, this was literally the reason i could not choose the subclasses. I missclicked at the creation, because i haven't seen the legacy classes at first. Thank you for your help, that solved the problem for me.

I have the Master Tier subscription.
I have access to the PHB.
I have the rogue character I am building up to level 3.
But it still only shows Thief in the drop-down as an option for Roguish Archetype.
What am I missing?

Try turning content sharing off then on again.
To link a character copy and paste the URL.

I bought the full PHB 2014 a week ago
created lvl 3 rogue in AND out of the campaign (campaign is also mine)
refreshed multiple times
Assassin subclass is still not available
Are you using the Legacy Rogue or the updated Rogue? It's only going to show up on Legacy Rogue if you only have the 2014 PHB.
