I hope (thoughts and prayers), that since it exists as a Boon in the DMG, that it will be fixed when they get Boons working.
I honestly expect that will be the case. The only reason that modifier exists is for that boon. If however, it worked for other things it would be very nice.
It would be nice if they would add a subtype for the Spell Slot Increase... I am new to D&D Beyond and I love the potential, but little bugs like this are frustrating.
Disappointing that this feature was just left half-completed. Especially since it's been that way for so long. DNDBeyond is fantastic for keeping track of character stats, but it just fails completely to incorporate boons, even with the homebrew system. Hopefully the spell slot issue is updates soon, but it's been so long I have my doubts.
Over a year later and still hoping for spell slot increase to be an available modifier. There's more attuned items slots but not spell slots. Seems odd.

The Artificer came out which required a modifier to increase attuned item count. Nothing official has come out that requires a modifier to increase spell slots.

Actually, the Book of Exalted deeds does.
The book of Exalted Deeds doesn't increase the amount of spell slots you have, but increase the effect of spell cast as if it is one level higher. But on the other hand we still have Epic Boons which give you 1 extra 9th level spell so there is still official material that increase your spell slots.
Update for y'all. The modifier sub-type has been added for this. It includes all the spellcasting classes (besides Artificer). I'm not sure how it works yet, but I'll have to test it out. I wonder if this has to do with the Ranger getting cantrips in the One D&D playtest.

You just can't change spell slots. I recommend using limited uses as a work around.
Its 2020, more than three years later from the OP. Still waiting on some way to add Spell Slots.

Bumping again -- bummer not to be able to include this on my homebrew feat.
So far my work-around is using a feat with a limited use and then explain what it is used for. Excited for this feature to hopefully be developed!
