Hi Dndbeyond team and community, Today I decided to create a custom barbarian subclass, so I created a copy of the berserker barb and proceeded to work on it. Upon finishing it said it was too similar to Berserker. Thinking this to be odd, I created a copy of Zealot Barb and re-made(copy paste) the class to see what was going on. It then proceeds to say too similar to Zealot Barb. Then to further test it I created a barbarian from scratch and copy pasted the class in, now it states that It doesnt have the correct levels and is too similar to circle of spores(DRUID). Im very confused on whats going on. Is it because Im trying to use similar language that the book uses it such as "beginning at 6th level" or "suffer a level of exhaustion" or "while raging" or "(DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier)" If anyone has any insight into this issue or if this is infact a bug that we cant create new homebrews at this time, I'd love to hear about it.
You can create them and use them when those warnings appear, you just can’t publish them for public consumption. It may be that you didn’t make enough changes from the copied subclass to be considered different enough to publish, especially since there are copyright/intellectual property rights involved in the official subclasses. But it may also be that you just need to save again using the top most save button (the one in the Basic Information section at the top). Only when you save from there does DDB run the checks.
but again, you don’t need to publish to use it, or to share it in your campaigns. And you shouldn’t publish until you have extensively playtested it, as editing published homebrew is exceedingly difficult.
