Only homebrew backgrounds that you have created yourself or have subscribed to from the homebrew background list will show up for you. Try creating a homebrew background and then selecting it in the builder.
Scroll down until you find your background on your creations page, then click somewhere in the bar to expand it, then look for the light blue "Add to Collection" button and click it.
Yea. It was all listed. Amnesiac Background. Clicked on the items...couldn't add anything in starting package. Even class stuff. Could add individual items, though.
The author has only added the equipment as a descriptive piece of text, "A coded note written in an exotic language you Know, a gemstone (worth 50gp) and a set of fine exotic Clothes."
However this hasn't been added to the background as actual items from the database (as per Hartless' comment above), so there is nothing to add to your character.
My suggestion is to message the author and request they add the items.
My next homebrew tutorial video will be on the intricacies of the background system.
I recently added a background to my collection and, despite showing up in my collection, it doesn't appear when creating a character. It was not a background I created, I got it from the homebrew section. Here is the background in question:
I read the guidelines and the only thing I saw about thread necromancy was not to do it *if* you didn't have any new information, so I hope I'm not breaking any rules here.
Piggybacking on the original problem, I can't seem to be able to add homebrew feats to my character.
I created War Caster and Shield Master as private, unpublished feats that are both in My Creations and My Collection. My character is private and has homebrew content enabled. I tried to add those two feats as my 4th and 8th level ASI, but I can only choose from the DND Beyond options. I also tried from the Manage Feats option in the character sheet.
Any advice?
EDIT: Never mind, I refreshed my sheet and all of a sudden it let me... Not sure what happened, but thanks anyway
I am having a similar problem. I am not being allowed to add a homebrew background even though it is added to my collection and homebrew is switched on for this character.
EDIT: I fixed it by removing it from my collection then adding it back on and refreshing my whole tab.
I have homebrew options active on characters, but none have the homebrew Backgrounds appearing. Using an iPad.

I had already created the background. It doesn’t show up.

Do you have show homebrew set up in the first character creation screen?
Yes, even tried making a fresh (new) character, doesn't pop up.
FiendishDragon
I'm guessing now, as to what could cause this - did you publish the background you created as public homebrew?
If it's for private use, there's no need to do that.
Can you post the link to your character here and also the link to your homebrew feat you're trying to select?
Only staff & moderators can access characters from such links.

Also, it wasn't showing before I had submitted it.

Hi there,
I've had a look and I can't see any problem with the character or background that would cause this.
The only thing I can think of is that the background isn't in your collection.
Take a look at your collection page and check that the background shows there:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/collection
If it doesn't, you can remedy this from your creations page:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations
Scroll down until you find your background on your creations page, then click somewhere in the bar to expand it, then look for the light blue "Add to Collection" button and click it.

(CORRECTION)
Sorry, I thought I had already done that. THANK YOU!

Piggybacking...anyone else notice they cannot add starting equipment in the character builder if they use a homebrew background?
I'm able to with no problem. Do you have the equipment set up in the homebrew background?
I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.

I just had a look at that homebrew background:

Appreciate it. Look forward to the video!
I’m eager for that. I can’t seem to craft the ADD EQUIPMENT phase of backgrounds correctly.
