I have tried to change spell casting ability several times across different characters and in many ways this would make a lot of sense. A booklearned ranged should be able to use int. A more druidic wizard could use wisdom. An enchanter could use charisma. I tried this by home brewing and changing the spell casting ability for example, yet spells chosen under spells in the selected home brew subclass use the base class usually spell casting ability. This seems to not work as intented.
Procedure example: - Create homebrew class,
- copy from enchantment wizard
- Select spell casting ability: Charisma
- Level my wizard to 2 and select the homebrew subclass
- Learn a few spells.
- Go to character sheet --> still shows the wizard using int as spell casting ability.
- Double check subclass, it sais charisma used for spell casting ability.
?????
Does not seem to update.
Example character: ddb.ac/characters/61936044/AVJAdc
Upon further investigation I noticed that the changes made to the subclass had not been saved at all so subclass defaults were on, including the name & spell casting ability.
I updated these again, and found out that the reason was that required fields had not been filled in (no error messages or any indication that things were not saved). This is not so good and should be updated with an error message if saving fails.
I corrected this again and checked character sheet. The subclass name nor features were updated. Still the old name "Copy of_".
I just removed the subclass from my character and chose it again after waiting like an hour and then it worked fine. Tried this twice after changing the homebrew subclass features. Not sure why it was not updating correctly before this. Perhaps a delay or remembering what the copied class looked like originally for some reason :/
Due to server side caching, it does take some time (usually about 20 minutes) for changes to filter through the system. It’s also essential to hit the “save changes” button in the topmost section of the homebrew editor after you have made changes. This is not as obvious as it could be, since you save in the various subsections. But to be sure everything takes and that the “is it publishable” checks are run again, users must do a final save in that top section (usually titled Basic Information or the like)
