When using the Edit/Create feature, you should be able to drag and drop attacks/reactions/bonus actions etc. from other monsters and have them automatically adjust their stats to the monster CR . Wizards previous monster builder was wonderful. I'd like to see a builder that was easier to use for the DM

I miss somewhat a textarea for general note of a monster.
Something i can write something not realated to the monster itself but, maybe, some clarification on how a mechanic should be or an explanation of some sort.

I'm pretty sure that this builder will be cleaned up and made much easier to use in the future - what you are currently seeing is the admin interface that the development team use themselves to add/edit content to the site.

Working through Out of the Abyss. A few issues so far:
1) Noticed that I can't find the Grick Alpha or any Myconids.
2) Getting a placeholder that looks like something incorrect is worse than not having one for all the monster images you have as of yet to scan
3) the search on the forums is terrible. I can't easily tell if the someone has already pointed out these issues without wading through all the comments. As a software nerd - access to the bug system would be handy!

For the beta, only the rules and options provided in the D&D 5th edition SRD , D&D 5th edition Basic Rules, Elemental Evil Companion are available in Beyond. Once the full platform launches later this summer, the core rule books and others will be available for purchase, and the content within will be available for those that purchase, or have access through a DM's subscription.
Still can't search by monster type. For some reason you have monster "tags", whatever they are, and "environment", despite that not being listed anywhere in official monster entries, but you don't have a basic type search which is a fundamental aspect of monster design that is built into their descriptions and when searching for a monster, is a key search criteria on every other monster list for 5e in existence. It's a little bizarre that it's still not in this one.
Here's a helpful reminder of what the types are and why they're important (in case you forgot):

How will the system handle things such as Monster Templates?
For example, I have been working on an adventure that uses an old creature I am bringing to 5th edition, the Yellow Musk Creeper. I am working on creating it in the Homebrew Monster creator now...
Part of the effect of this creature is to turn other creatures (and/or the players) into Yellow Musk Zombies.
How would we be able to create a template that can be applied to another creature to add or modify it to fit the new structure without having to create a fully new creature, each time?
I am still getting up to speed for 5th edition, so not sure if there is a Template structure at all or not....
This morning I noticed that monsters beyond the basic rules and SRD have been suddenly unlocked. Is this intentional?
Hi CapnCrit,
if you found the monsters via search, clicking on the stat-block should give you their stats and a "Content coming soon" message for the main text block. If you click on their name, it should take you to a "403 forbidden" page.
This behaviour is intentional, so you can see what monsters are available and understand which publication they are in.
I have seen a couple of threads wishing for clickable spells in the monster descriptions. Or pop up boxes with the spell info. The same for other relevant information that is needed to run the monster without searching in multiple places. Special abilities, magic items. This would be great, and it seems this mega-thread is the right place to ask for it.
Yeah, when spells are mentioned in monster stats I've just been including corresponding links to (moderator note - website link removed - you may not post links to sites which break Wizards of the Coast copyright)
Will we be able to edit our homebrew content even after it is published and approved (i.e. changing a homebrew monster's stats if a more appropriate alternative is found)?

The D&D Beyond forums have built-in tooltips, which can be used when creating homebrew, which I strongly suggest using, as they are simpler and provide greater functionality.
You're welcome to use links to other sites within your own private homebrew, but please note that should you wish to publish that homebrew for public use, it would be rejected as links to other websites are not allowed within homebrew.
Also - please note that linking to sites that infringe Wizards of the Coast copyright is not tolerated at all on D&D Beyond.
To answer your query about editing - once homebrew has been published, you need to create a new version if you want to make changes.
We do not allow direct edits of published homebrew, as it could well be in use by other users, who would not appreciate changes to the homebrew happening without them realising.
Once I choose a monster TYPE that is NOT on the monster default/start screen, the interface will go back to the start and DOES NOT SHOW MY current monster TYPE CHOICE(s). So if I choose GIANT(I have to hit the > button to get there) the page jumps back and does NOT display anywhere what my current choices are. I can get it to stay but if my choices are say, Aberration and Undead one will not be seen on the data page. This is the kind of stuff that make the experience DRAG. You MUST display the users current TYPE(s) chosen on the page where the data populates.
How about just two TYPES buttons: "ALL" and "Filter Types". When you click on FILTER TYPE you get a pop up with ALL the TYPES named icons. Pick what you want then hit CLOSE. This is BETTER. Then display the current choices. You could get fancy and make a sticky scroll box to follow you as you scroll showing text of ALL your current filters - TYPE and ADVANCED. Put the sticky box at the right just below the top two choices.
I believe this idea is better. The TYPES should be ALL together when choices are made.
Looking forward to DDB growing. I'm excited. Keep up the good work.

EDIT: I'm an idiot.

I can't close the pop-ups for spells and the like on my tablet. I'm not sure if that's a bug, or I'm just missing something.
It would be helpful if monsters could be filtered by source (Basic, Monster Manual, etc.)
Thanks and keep up the good work!
