I run 2 games a week, one in person the other online over Skype, we’ve been talking about porting over to ddb as recently as Christmas but now both groups have asked we switch platforms and give up 5e all together and go with pathfinder or another platform that doesn’t backstab its players by removing content they love. It breaks my heart to see a game I’ve played for years turn its back on its constituents. So here’s what will happen. If corporate greed trumps individual creativeness then we will take that business somewhere else and vote with our wallet’s because that’s the only thing hasbro and WotC understands. Look forward to a full boycott of your products across all platforms. Sorry to say but you did it to yourself and it’ll be really hard to come back from this. My best wishes to your employees who will soon find themself downsized as we are recession inbound.
Cancel your subscriptions now. WotC is using DDB subscription cancellation as a metric to measure community backlash. Canceling early doesn't cost you anything, you will still keep the benefits until the renewal date.
I signed up for an account just to say this. You have one path forward WOTC and Hasbro. Your 1.1 will be exactly like the 1.0b, but with explicit language indicating it can never be deauthorized and can never be retracted. You really stepped in it now. Did you forget how many video games were produced using OGL content, and what kind of major gaming company powerhouses are behind them? You'd do well to remember.
You would also do well to remember WE built this success for you. All this money you've made suddenly from D&D? The OGL did that. This was always a mutually beneficial relationship. The only ones being greedy are you.
To those working under WOTC and Hasbro who agree with what I'm saying, which I'm guessing is the artists, writers, and game designers, now's the time. It's not easy, I've had to join on a strike before myself, and you're not even unionized (as far as I know) so it's going to be even harder, but it's time to start meeting with each other and form a solid wall of opposition to what they're doing. If they fire the whole lot of you, I know for sure there's a lot of companies out there that would be glad to have you. But, it still won't be easy and I know you all have bills to pay and families to support. I can understand if you're not willing, but at least all meet up to have some secret meetings about this. And, to whoever has been sending these leaks, THANK YOU.
Anyway, my friend actually did have a subscription they were paying for. They cancelled it today just like all the others. You're hoping this blows over. You may not be wrong, but what you haven't anticipated is that even if the OGL complaints do blow over, whatever new fans you think you're going to attract won't stay long and won't be able to justify the monthly fees you're trying to charge for.... books... Casual players aren't going to send you "to the moon" here. They're important, and I enjoy playing with them as much as anyone, but they aren't how your turkey is basted. You'll come to realize that rather than kill off your "competition" in Paizo, you just assured their success. Everything that happens next? It's all your fault, and it isn't just a tempest in a teacup.
I'm waiting to see what happens for now, after Wizards/Hasbro cancelled their official release of the new $%^&^ OGL.
If you're reading this Wizards/Hasbro, if you de-authorize OGL 1.0b I will cancel my DND subscription and never buy another Wizards, Hasbro or subsidiary product again. I will also go out of my way to make sure anyone I know does the same. I will only support your competition.
The first is that you can be famed and loved across the world. By sharing your empire will grow. Your peraonal wealth will be a minority of your kingdom but it will be the largest minority of a great empire and others will florish around you.
The second is that you do not share, you will keep most of the wealth of a withering, dying empire.
Wizards: The first one,! Definately the first one!
Genie: granted!
[ Years later]
Wizards: We have a huge empire, why don't we have more profit? I don't want to share any more.
Genie: granted!
Wizards: And I want everthing in my kingdom to belong to me and everyone to follow my rules and i will be the ultimate judge on all laws and....!
Genie: Granted! That was your last wish. Goodbye wizard King, goodbye.
If Hasbro continues down this path, I can promise that this D&D player of 32 years and Magic player of 29 years will never spend another penny on WoTC products. There are way too many fantastic games out there run by companies who don't allow corporate greed to dictate their every move, like Paizo.
First ever forum post. Cancelled my sub that I've had for a few years. Had been considering upgrading to Master tier for a while but now I'm glad I haven't. DNDBeyond was convenient but not a necessity. Having purchased all the books with exception to Dragonlance on here. Especially the last few release. Saving Spelljammer + Dragonlance for last and the last few releases being big disappointments. Monsters of the Multiverse invalidating 3 previous released books rather than releasing actual new content. Come on WotC, you're huge company. How are you not able to provide decent content?
I just went through and downloaded characters I may need when my subscription runs out. The only ones left are those I may need while I'm still activly using the system. I got a subscription strictly for the ability to have more than 6 characters, as my partner shared their subscription to me so we could have all the books on one account.
I'd rather only use this site for the books I bought if I continue to run 5e than pay for the extras if OGL 1.1 goes through.
If you go ahead with the new OLG 1.1, and revoke the OLG 1.0, the Spelljammer adventure will officially be the last content from WotC I have ever bought. I will delete my d&d beyond. I also play MTG and product fatigue is real. I plan on only buying on the secondary market. Just because something may be legally fine does not mean it is ethical. We feel lied to, and used by WoTC/Hasbro. #openD&D
My first and last post. Long time player and supporter. I'm never supporting wizards again.
So long everybody!
Way to kill a franchise WOTC and Hasbro! Really stellar work
I can't even find the unsubscribe button? Did WotC hide it?

Put #OpenDND in the reason for canceling.
Fix it. Change it. Or I'm out, as well as the party..

Cancelled my subs today, I wont be buying anymore stuff from Wizards either.

I’m having a funeral for WoTC this weekend. Gonna bury my books in the woods.

I cancelled my Hero Tier Subscription January 13th 2023 because of "OGL" 1.1
Master subscriber for years. Purchased more WotC material than I care to think of (digital and physical).
Thanks to your decision on OGL:
-DnDB Sub- cancelled
-2 preorders for new WotC content- cancelled
-Hasbro DnD action figures being delivered today, opened tonight, returned tomorrow
-Purchase of anything Habro/WotC- never again
Bye Felicia!

Just cancelled mine and I am reaching out to friends to cancel their subs as well.
Cancelled mine a few days ago.

Cancelled my Master Tier sub over this evil act by WotC just moments ago.
