This is planned. They are waiting to implement AL support until the new AL season, as word is there will be significant changes to how AL works. (No word on what the changes will be)
You can get a broad overview of the upcoming changes by reviewing the appendix in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Lots of details are still needed, however, and in any case there's no point in DDB investing the time and resources to develop AL tracking in a way that will be obsolete by the end of August.
