I'm not to sure what you are trying to say Benz, sorry ':)
What i'm personally doing to temporarily fix it is in the sheet. Clicking on the spell to open the info window and customizing the action with an override to its to hit that is the same as my melee attack. Of course when the characters stats change be it due to level or such i would have to remember to change it myself but i don't mind.
My post was merely meant to inform that the sheet as it is, is currently using the wrong stat to calculate an official spell.
If you're just adding to what im saying, my apologize for derping xD

I was-- indeed-- just adding to what you're saying. i.e. there's no way in the spell builder to circumvent the problem for the moment, so have to do what you did: change it manually in the sheet.
My earlier comment was meant for the D&D Beyond designers. Sorry about the confusion 🙂

I didn’t realize this was an issue as I homebrewed booming blade. I see now my version doesn’t have an attack at all and I’ve always just used my equipped weapon.
I like the way that advantages are displayed on the sheet; however, I wish the same was done for disadvantages. I use splint armor, which gives disadvantage on stealth. Would be helpful to have a little reminder next to stealth skill. Like a red dot or something to complement the green dot for advantage.
I like the new sheet look, although I'm still trying to get used to it. Thanks for the updates
Just noticed now on a character export pdf, that in personality traits, if you select two in the same column (e.g. bonds), the second one gets cut-off from the sheet. I remember this happening from time to time on the old one, but the text was there, I just needed to hit backspace before the rest would appear in that text box. However, this time, the rest of it is just not there.
The new character sheet has been a big hit with my group. I even had players offering to help me pay my subscription after a session using them (this is out of the ordinary). It takes us a nice step along the way to DDB becoming our one stop shop for gaming aids. For the DM, the addition of some sort of DM dashboard, which gives the ability to view characters, track monster hp, etc. would take us most of the way there.
For my players, the next thing would be the ability to roll dice in app (saving throws, attacks, damage, etc.). So, I know that a 'die roller' has been suggested elsewhere, but I'd like to offer a thought (probably not original). I'd like a die roller which is smart and uses the info that DDB has to simplify things.
So, say you have a rogue. You click to attack. A popup comes up that lets you click a box for sneak attack so that sneak attack damage is rolled with the attack. Maybe you have the magic initiate feat and have green flame blade. Maybe it lets you click whether you are doing your attack through the spell. That damage gets rolled too! Yay!
You are a battlemaster-- you click to attack, popup comes up that lets you select among your various maneuvers. Extra damage is rolled, Save DC and type of save shows up with the damage. Superiority dice checkbox is checked automatically.
Best example-- You are a relatively high level paladin with a holy avenger. You click your attack. You are given checkboxes for whether your opponent is a fiend or undead and whether you'd like to channel divine smite using a spell slot. This came up just the other night. My buddy was trying to figure out how many dice of damage he had to roll based on a bunch of situational factors. So, even using the digital sheet, he was clicking around to figure out all the situational modifiers. It occurred to both of us that DDB already has all this info in the database. Wouldn't it be nice if he could have just clicked on his holy avenger, checked the appropriate boxes and then boom-- it rolls all the damage and checks off the spell slots and he doesn't have to search around at all? It would be nice.
We would love that. We would love that a lot. It would speed up our game a lot.

I’ve been role playing/gaming since I was 14 (I’m now 46) and for me, nothing beats rolling physical dice. The feel of them in your hand. Shaking them and psyching them before rolling them on to the table to see what fate has in store. The sound of them hitting the table. The joy of seeing the number you wanted/needed appear. Knowing which of your dice won’t let you down when it comes to crunch time. Collecting them over I years. Pretty much all my dice have a story behind them. it’s a religion......

No random number generator will ever beat that.
agree 100% but for those playing online, having a dice roller that all players can see is needed and very useful. right now we need to use another program. would be nice to have it all in one.
I love the new sheet, and only have a couple issues with it:
It would be nice to have something in the HP section to reflect my abjurer's arcane ward. Temporary HP doesn't come up much in that particular campaign so I've always used that section, but it would be useful to have a dedicated spot rather than having to keep track of the number on paper. Also, having it automatically refill when I cast an abjuration spell would be awesome.
I know it's in the works, but one thing I'm hoping for the familiar/animal companion section is ad-hoc customization. I have one character who upgraded her familiar with a magical item (more HP and AC) and I like the idea of letting my players train their companions to improve their stats or give them new abilities.
Having homebrew profiles or folders of some kind would be amazing. "Homebrew allowed" is very vague. I have one DM that doesn't allow homebrew but allows some older Unearthed Arcana content that would need to be added that way. I have another that allows some approved homebrew spells for my druid. When I DM, I like to make a list of pre-approved homebrew for my players, everything from new races to subclasses to feats. But by just toggling on homebrew, I can't specify which homebrew to use for a particular character, and it gets very cluttered. Being able to tag or categorize homebrew or assign homebrew to a campaign, and then choose which homebrew folder to use for which character, would be so useful, and almost necessary for people like me with a huge homebrew library.

Fair point and I can see how playing online would require it.
Tiny glitch; exporting the character sheet to PDF on iPad generates just the blank sheet, no info filled in.
Hi there Flabzilla, this is a known issue with the default PDF reader on iOS mobile devices - it doesn't work with form-filled PDFs. If you install the Adobe PDF reader, it should work just fine.
I also saw posts saying that the latest iteration of the iOS PDF reader works, so maybe see if there's an update first.

I believe that is a OS level thing, and yes, at least in iOS 12 beta, the PDFs are working correctly.

It’s easy enough to send across to Adobe Acrobat app, then you also have a place where it is stored and can edit it too.
Minor hack: if you have a skill that gets advantage (which currently doesn’t show up in DDB), just go into Customise and put a 0 in Misc Bonus. It won’t change your bonus but will make it blue on the sheet to help you remember. You’re welcome.

I've been playing since I was 13 (I'm now 34) and for me, give me a random number generator I can trust (Random.org or Roll20) and I'll take it over physical dice any day of the way. I mean, a button is so much easier to just press than pick up the right dice, finding a spot in which they won't roll on the floor and where I can still see them, rerolling the ones that come out cocked. And it's so much more convenient. Then I don't have to carry around a big bag of plastic. And all the superstitions and customs and rituals surrounding dice... blegh.

Added +2 arrows to a character's inventory today... equipped them, aaaaand nothing happened in the attack block of the character sheet. Short bow attack block still says "+5 att, 1d6+3 piercing damage"
Made a custom action for it.. but.. still, couldn't add the +2 from the arrows to the attack.

Minor thing with mobile view. I'm left handed and it would be nice if I could toggle the menu button to be on the left instead of the right.

I’m left handed and agree that would be cool. Thing is floating buttons typically are on the right so I’m used to using my right thumb by now.
