**sigh** Well, after about two months, I still don't like the new sheet. I've been forcing myself to use it, but I keep going back to the paper character sheet I made for one of my D&D Beyond characters. The current format just isn't as convenient as a paper sheet, and It's just too clunky to get to the additional information.
I realise the majority of people seem to prefer the new format, but I still refuse to believe there was a sufficient landslide majority to justify changing the old format (and have no option to use the old one). It was one of the major draws for me about the whole D&D Beyond look and feel. Sad face.
I don't know I really hated the old sheet and really love the new one. /shrug

The lack of inflection in text means that a reader of any post adds their own inflection as they "verbalize" it in their head. I write long and repetitive in an effort to be clear and avoid my intent from being skewed or inverted. I am also bad at examples. It is common for people to skim my posts pull out the idea they think I mean or want to argue against or focus on my bad example instead of the point I am actually trying to make. I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.
While we're throwing in feature requests, could we have containers?
There are items with the container tag, this implies that they could contain other items. It'd be nice if a container could hold things in a drop down menu and have an option to carry/drop the container and its contents to alter ones encumbrance. Having a bag of holding should decrease your encumbrance, not increase it. It's really important if you're playing a game where carry weight matters, total inventory and carried inventory need to be separate to reflect what you're doing in game, if it can't do that then inventories encumbrance system is useless. While having spare characters named "Room in the Inn" and "Right saddle bag" can ameliorate the issue, it's sad that something that silly is the best work around for tracking inventory encumbrance in Dndbeyond. I'm currently recording where everything is by hand because my bag of holding can't hold squat and trying to use the current inventory system to show I have a cart means the character sheet thinks that I am carrying the cart and not vice versa.
I'm tired of carrying the cart. Give us a place to drop it.

This, companions and wild shapes are apparently the three things that are going to be implemented the soonest on the sheet. Containers for me is by far the biggest one, though, as it's a constant annoyance in game.

that's fair enough. but just to counter this, i have a player who was dead against using a tablet or any electronic device for a character sheet and i had to update his character sheet in DDB every week and print it out. after about 3 weeks of watching the other players use the new character sheet and being able to find the information on the sheet and the details as to what everything does he finally came around to the idea and now really likes the electronic sheet.
i guess it is possible that he might have come around to the old sheet as well but i think the new character sheet looking and feeling like a paper character sheet helped him come around to the idea.
So is it confirmed that the search function for this thread is broken? I click on "Search This Thread" at the top then type "Initiative" or something as simple as "Character" and get no results? I'd love to avoid giving feedback that has already been mentioned, but it's impossible to sort through 75 pages of comments to make sure it hasn't been brought up.
Onto my actual comment, can we get Initiative customization? I use a homebrew rule where my players can opt to use INT for initiative instead of DEX. In most sections of the new sheet (attacks, AC, etc.), you can override the values in the "Customization" section of the sidebar. Initiative has no such option. Just a flat override would suffice and let us get this into our game, but having more control so that it correctly tracks with changes to INT and stacks with things like Bard's Jack of All Trades and such would be even better.
If you think a homebrew feat could be used to accomplish this, that I could just give to all players who want to use INT, I'd love to work with that as a possible solution. But I can't see how that would work.
if we are putting things on a wishlist for updating the character management page:
Being able to re-order your characters would be nice. They aren't even sorted alphabetically right now, just the order of creation. Bonus points, maybe being able to group them by campaign or class in container boxes. Here's my AL char bucket, here's my test char bucket, etc.
Group by campaign sounds good, although most people rarely have more than one character in a campaign, so it wouldn't really solve much. Group by class will also become less helpful as you start having multiclass characters. Filtering by these however would be very beneficial (with multiclass characters showing up if the filter matches any of the classes; thus a fighter/cleric would appear if you filter for fighter or for cleric.)
my wife and I have multiple AL characters running, and grouping by tier would be nice, that is sort of where I was going when I wrote campaigns. heres our T1 chars for store A, tier 2 for store A, here's the home campaign, here's the home AL game, etc... just a container for grouping.
our ToA characters are mixed next to a game she doesn't even play in with me. it's annoying to have no order to them. if it was alphabetical, it would make sense, but again, like a lot of things here, someone just tossed it on the page and it worked and its good enough with no thought to ui/ux.

Yeah, that sounds more usable, but still quite a "custom" sorting.
I guess the easiest would be if we could just add a free text "grouping" tag to each character, and it would be grouped by that - simple and flexible enough to solve everyone's grouping preferences.

I was just curious why the character sheet doesn’t have basic phb options... I have a level three paladin but there’s only one option for oaths... I feel like the character sheet should have the basic phb options... I understand purchasing the rest of the options but the phb ones should be there... thanks

The only thing available for free from WOTC is the basic rules, SRD and Elemental Evil Player's Companion. If you would like PHB content, you will need to purchase it.
You can also choose to solely purchase the oath/spells that you want, and not the entire book if you like.
Or, if you already own a physical copy of the book and find the effort worth it, you can enter in your desired oath through the homebrew system for your personal use.

another option would be to be able to pull characters from the character builder into the campaign management grouping, which ARE sorted. go figure.
something like this, but without me entering all 12 of my characters and inventory again.
sorted or just dumb luck everyone joined alphabetically, I am not sure:
Hi, this probably has been pointed out already, but the life cleric healing bonus is not automatically added to healing spells. It would be really helpful for it to auto add the bonus, because I'm sure I'm not the only one who constantly forgets about it (especially because I only have one level in it solely for the bonus).
This is more of a question that hopefully Adam may address on the dev update next week.
You’ve added Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade under individual weapon attacks as a new section that looks like it’s an additional effect that can be applied to that attack (that’s not how those spells work btw). Are there any plans in the works to expand that concept to abilities or spells that CAN actually affect attacks, such as Sneak Attack, Divine Smite, Sharpshooter/GWM, Hex, Hunter’s Mark, Divine Favor etc etc?
Secondly, I noticed the warlock in our party ignored those updates but spent a bit of time trying to create a custom attack for his Shadow Blade spell and getting frustrated that currently the Range input doesn’t seem to work. There’s no way to adjust range on Custom Attacks? Looking back in the forums, it seems this has been a problem for quite some time. Perhaps that can be fixed before you add any more features?
Thanks for your help!

I hasn't been working on this thread for a while. Janky workaround: Google site search. On Google, enter your search terms, then append "site:url" -- searching "initiative site:https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/d-d-beyond-feedback/19571-mega-thread-character-sheet-revamp-feedback" gives me about 30 results. You do have to tell Google that you want to see all results instead of having them omit results.

I use Campaigns to categorise my characters. Not that hard to shift characters from one to another, as long as you're the DM for that campaign.
Which is still an uncomfortable way of doing it, Beyond Help is better.
Check out all my important links here.
May we live in Less Interesting Times
I’m not saying it’s perfect, but at least this way it’s synced across all my devices and I have link shortcuts to each campaign
I dont feel like re-entering all my characters to get there, and then re-enter everything with they change tiers.
though I can give myself a URL to a campaign I started and add my own characters. this solves a problem for me. and shit is sorted.
