Hopefully not many. Even their big sales aren't that big. They advertise "up to" 50% off, but any remotely popular book is only $5-$10 off. Strixhaven is a perfect example at $6 off.
so, if they brought back ala carte (and/or legendary bundle) tomorrow... is that enough? suppose they claimed it was back by popular demand with no further comment. would you do a big sweaty cartoon "fwheeew!" and go back to buying from the DDB marketplace again?
Yes, the boycott lasts as long as the feature is removed, though I'd be hesitant to continue supporting as much. I would certainly buy the new sourcebooks digitally when they come out, I still plan on getting print copies from my FLGS regardless cause I want those alt-covers. I'd restart my membership for sure. But on top of that some form of public acknowledgement would really be needed to begin to rebuild trust. I'm even open to a few concessions, one being 'pack only' purchases and two being all physical books come with one-time use codes to get the digital for $10, the same deal as getting the bundle directly from DDB.
I think packs are reasonable.
TBH, I have done some individual item purchasing but for the most part I just went for the full pack. $1.99 for one item, $5.99 for like 10-20 items. I'd pay that extra $4 no problem.

Sure, 4$, who cares...
...but what if instead of 20$ for a book, suddenly it costs 30$? Retroactively. For ALL books, not just new ones. Because that's what they did, digital books now cost 30$ instead of the 20 they used to (promos not included). "I'd pay that extra 4", you say, how about 10$?
And what if in the future they remove the ability to buy digital unless you have a monthly subscription? I mean, that sounds stupid and ludicrous, but hey, they removed piecemeal and increased the price of every book by 10$ without any warning, who's to say they won't do this either?

Actually all original books were $29.99. The $19.99 cost was for Compendium Only (no character options).
Here is my receipt from 2018 where I purchased the PHB with the cost of $29.99 (I used a promo voucher from a sale to get the $10 discount).
I hate the decision too, but let's not claim they did something they didn't.

You've missed the point. I'm applying what erraticpaladin5 said,
hey, I only want the content in the 2$ pack, but there's this extra content for 6$, so I'll gladly pay that extra 4$ for stuff I won't use
To another another situation,
hey, I only want the content in the 20$ pack, but there's this extra content (character/encounter builder) for 30$, so I'll gladly pay that extra 10$ for stuff I won't use
And asking if it makes a difference when the upcharge for bloat is 10$ instead of 4.
Absolutely. We shouldn’t have to have a Beauty and the Beast level of book purchases to put a build together if we are only interested in certain items. It’d be different if it was always this way, but we got a taste of something better and now it’s hard to go back.

Maybe it's how you're phrasing it, maybe I'm just dumb, maybe it's my brain condition, maybe it's maybelline... But I don't understand the purpose of this exaggerated hypothetical example you're proposing?
How it worked before, and what we want back:
Let's say the book is $30 (because I cannot be arsed with the .99 bullcrap for mental quickmath). You then purchased a single spell for $2. All purchases made piecemeal are applied as a discount to the book cost if you ever decide to buy the full book and you unlock that piecemeal purchase everywhere it exists on the site: search tools, character sheet, homebrew template, encounter builder, etc. So, now you have the spell will full use unlocked and the book cost is now $28. Then you decide you want the whole list of subclasses, which is $6, so you get those and unlock them everywhere, in every tool, on the site. Now the book, if you decide to get it, only costs $22.
At no point do you ever end up paying more than the original book cost: whether whole book, or piece by piece, your max cost never exceeds that $30.
There is no bloat.
So, I'm confused about why you're responding with examples of an example system not implemented, in a thread that's only about wanting the a la carte purchase options returned?
I apologise if I'm missing something.

I apologise if I'm missing something.
What you're missing is that the book didn't cost 30. The "Book + all the character sheet stuff" costs 30. It's very different. The book, and just the book, and nothing else, used to cost 20. The DDB features cost 10$, but you weren't forced to buy them if you didn't want to, and if you did decide to get it later, you could buy them for 10$ (since you've already spent 20 out of the 30 it costs).
It's the exact same thing as with piecemeal. The path of Giant Barbarian used to cost 2$ (or however much it was), and if you wanted the rest of the book, you could buy it for 28. You didn't have to buy the full book, if you didn't want to. And if you ever change your mind, you could still buy the rest of it later. Well, except now you can't. You have to buy stuff you don't care, which I'm rephrasing into "bloatware", because that's really what it is: stuff you don't want to pay for, but is shoved in your face.
As for why, the parent comment kinda implied "eh, it's fine if they shove 4$ down your throat for bloat". To which I ask... what if it was10$? Do you still not care? What if it was 50$ upcharge? What if it was a monthly subscription to access the content? At which point will you say "ENOUGH!"?
The post you replied to did not seem, to me, to be an 'eh, whatever' about the overall difference between "subclass bundle" and "full book", but rather the difference between $1.99 for 1 subclass and $5.99 for all of the book's subclasses, making it more appealing to buy that subclass bundle. They aren't talking about the full book.
And the difference between $1.99 and $5.99 wasn't because of bloat but rather because the '$10 more than the read-only e-book' is discounted to try encourage full book over piecemeal and the single item $1.99 not reflecting it's better equivalent value because of "minimum transaction value" limitations often imposed by many e-merchant services (D&D Beyond get charged for every transaction of any value). The options bundles were also discounted rather than trying to say "x item is worth y in labour costs" - because it's simply not counted that way, and because their pricing structure had to account for those who made repeat piecemeal purchases accruing additional transaction costs compared to those who make less with bundle buys and even less with whole book purchases.
So the "bloat" of "if full is $30 and compendium is $20 then the options stuff are only worth $10" is not an accurate assessment of why they were costed that way. So your response to erraticpaladin5 seems to indicate a misunderstanding of why the a la carte was priced the way it was, and, from my perspective, a misunderstanding of their post.
Or maybe I'm missing stuff again and if so I apologise again. My brain is poorly and I'm fighting the onset of a food coma from massive pizza I just had. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Nom noms distract ma bwains.

I think what @Fire1520 is trying to say is, not only did we lose the purchase of individual items, but we also lost the option to purchase the compendium content alone. So, if you didn't want any of the spells, subclasses, etc -- but wanted the compendium content that used to be $20, now you have to pay the full $30.

Yes, it's a shame. There is certainly an attraction for that - like, they want to play pen & paper but will what the digital book because easier to carry round and search. So much functionality and accessibility into this wonderful hobby - gone to the wind. Woeful.

I wonder how many people will use this June sale. I want Silvery Barbs but won't pay $20+ for the rest of Strixhaven. Kicking myself for not getting that spell sooner...
Hopefully not many. Even their big sales aren't that big. They advertise "up to" 50% off, but any remotely popular book is only $5-$10 off. Strixhaven is a perfect example at $6 off.
Yup. "50% off" (the soon to be obsolete PHB/DMG/MM). .

You got what i was saying, it was in reference to a concession towards the idea that if they don’t bring back individual a la carte, i.e. a single subclass from a source for $1.99, it would be ‘pack only’ meaning you could buy the Subclass bundle for like $5.99. And that I would be okay with that because I would end up buying the full pack most of the time anyway. I’m a DM and I pay for the content sharing across like 5 different campaigns currently. Having back the individual purchase would be great but i understand that transaction costs for the company may have made 1.99 minimum purchases too expensive for them. So middle ground compromise could be pack only.
I’m not following what Fire1520 is saying, it’s very convoluted following their examples but MJC i think said it the most simplistic way. which in that case just say that haha.
I quit buying anything on D&D Beyond when they did this. I'm done. Riding out my subscription and then gonna re-evaluate my subscription. Man, what a clusterpuff they've become.
