Hasbro maliciosly over-corrected things to stave off "a la carte is no better tan/is a primer for the VTT's microtransactions" garbage faux-savior take being spouted being thrown around by talking heads, indie fandoms and Linda Cociega wannabes.
Guess they took a stock/profit dip when that was going around, and did what Hasbro does best:Suits and shareholders ordering malicious over-correction of anything in the WotC department to avoid bad PR that costs them pennies to hypthetically make up lost endless growth and proifit!
This is Hasbro's version of Disney clapping back at an video criticizing the Star Wars hotel by planting a article full of "nuh uh"s full of corporatespeak.
This is a filthy move from DND Beyond. I have the special edition Glory Of Giants, love it, and just want to play als the new Barbarian subclass. But no screw them, i'm not paying € 30 for the digital version of the physical book i already own just to play a new subclass I learned about in the BOOK I ALREADY OWN!!!!
Many of the magic items and subclasses I bought previously have now disappeared from my account in this change, with no heads up or refund from dndbeyond.

Mine are still available and working, you may want to contact customer service.
ETA: if it is partnered content do you have the toggle turned on for that?
Mine is still there. I just verified that I can still build an astral elf, and I definitely did not buy the spelljammer book. if I had to, I would not have the astral elf, because there's a zero percent chance I would pay for that book.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

You own the physical book yes. You do not own the content on D&D Beyond which is a different type of service. Its not just a PDF of the content. You can still use your owned book content in the way it was intended to be used.

The digital "book" on DDB is so much more than a pdf, this can not be overstated!

While what you've replied is literally true, it is kind of missing the point -- and the underlying logic being expressed. The frustration is that *normally* most businesses would give some kind of discount for variations of content already owned.

Only at time of purchase through and only thru specific paths (IE their website), and WotC is doing that now. you can addon Beyond content in most cases for an extra $10 when you buy the physical copy for alot of the books now. Also no, its not "normal" for companies to do that, sure they may give you a code in the book to download the PDF but thats jsut a PDF, nothing close to what Beyond content is. I cant think of a single company that will give you a PDF of their book months latter after buying the physical book.
This is what happens when corporate idiots try and change things that they know very little about...
I used to browse the marketplace often looking for interesting new things, now I don't even go there. It's overly complicated, the most useful features has been removed and the whole site just feels like it is built to try and rip you off rather than entice you to find something that inspires you to create awesome games.
I dread buying anything, because I know it is going to be amazingly painful.
I bought some stuff today.
As usual, I have to wade through a mess to find the things I don't own.
Seriously, you need to fix the marketplace. Your organization makes no sense whatsoever. Not for anyone. I know, this stuff isn't easy, but it isn't all that hard either. You could fix it if you wanted to. So you must not want to.
So I get this message: "We poked around your Bag of Holding, and we're pretty sure you already own one of these digital products. If you'd like . . . .", etc etc.
Okay, thank you from stopping me from buying something twice. But . . . you didn't tell me which one. You know which one, but you didn't tell me. I had to figure it out. That is really stupid.
And . . . we hear almost nothing from you. You certainly spend a lot of time on fluff posts and self-advertisement, but very little on telling us how things are going to get better.
I gotta tell you, this is classic behavior from a software company getting ready to crash and burn. Probably your reduced staff is working super-hard on the new stuff. You're really hoping the new stuff is going to turn everything around. I've seen it over and over. That strategy almost never works.
I hope I am wrong. I'm hoping the new stuff this fall is going to be so awesome, it blows everyone away. I hope it is like the dawn of 5e all over again. I hope the marketplace gets fixed, you get mapping and encounter tools that are on par with your competition, and there are rainbows and unicorns.
I've been playing D&D a long time. I resist it when anyone says, hey try this other system. But, I know, there are a lot of great systems out there. And hey, the other day, we played boardgames instead. Been awhile since we've done that. I've got a lot of money sunk into D&D, specifically into D&D Beyond. A lot. But that is sunk costs. At some point, it just makes sense to try something new.
Hopefully, things are going to get really really awesome pretty soon, like this fall. I hope so. But I doubt it.
Ah well.. spend quite a bit so far buying separate items, subclasses, spells that I wanted to try out. I loved DnDbeyond and recomended it to every single one of my players.. I just checked the new marketplace and I can safely say the restructure removed any wish to purchase anything more from me.. even sourcebooks that I already own 95% of things from seperately are full price xD Safe to say I can hardly be recommending it anymore.. Ah well.. hasbro doing what it does best and letting greed run things into the ground. GG

There are so many people saying that they will spend literally no money because of the removal of à la carte, probably a combined hundred plus pages of feedback with that exact sentiment. I unsubscribed and so did many others over this and yet a month and a half later, we hear nothing from them. No explanations, no acknowledgments, no concessions, nothing. We’ve had a few mods address us, some of them way more toxic than others. But even then, it seems like they’ve just moved on and aren’t even responding or passing along

I call BS on this comment
Some others have said similar things, but it is being resolved if they contact support. Sadly, this isn't even the major issue. No more a la carte = no more money from me.
I just resubscribed and I was making my very first AL character and I wanted to have an Archfey Patron but I can't because I can't buy that anymore! I used to be able to buy things I needed and now I need to buy the book when I have a book at home!!!

Boy, I sure would have liked to buy some monsters for my campaign tomorrow.... Oh well. That's $20 you'll never see Hasbro.
Party Wizard Forever!
I despair.

The fact that one of the DNDB founders has come forth to express disappointment in this decision is just... wow.

If some random people with influencer credit hadn't said that Hasbro was pushing microtransactions via a la carte, we wouldn't be in this mess.
