Yeah, Yesterday we had one-shot with some new players (and after 15 years i got to play instead DM, wuhuuuu) and as i knew about this issue i made every countermeassure possible. Allowed only 2014 content via campaign setting and so...
It just resets or god knows why one of newbie ended with 2024 druid and 2024 spells
+ Ussuall bother when you try to find something in 5e and it shows results for 24e
In short before game majority of participans were like '24e sounds interesting, i should look into that' and durinf the game it changed to 'omg thats annoying, i dont want that...'
The 'best' part was when somebody did ask 'so its just bug and they will fix it soon?' HaHaHa....ha....ha.....
D&D Beyond made us dependent on it to manage the complicated interactions of the game, and now that it doesn’t do the job I needed it to, I have no desire to pay for it. Three of my weekly campaigns are using systems besides D&D going forward. I’ll always be grateful for the digital tool that lowered the barrier to entry, On to other games.
This exact thing happened with our cleric as well; a life cleric. She was really annoyed by it and it caused a fair degree of confusion. This is a choice made by WotC for... Reasons. It makes absolutely no sense and I feel it will cost them customers. Even if some people have no interest in buying the new stuff, like our group, we'd still pay for a DDB subscription if it would actually work and not invade our character sheets with 2024 content none of own or want. It's really terrible.
I cancelled my subscription. I literally printed all my 5e books off on my laser printer (time consuming). I’m going back to paper and pencil character sheets. If they decide to make a proper “legacy” toggle that completely shuts off 2024 rules in a way to not mess up all my 5e campaigns.. I’ll come back. Wizards not having this feature on launch is audacious.. The fact they still haven’t acknowledged or dealt with this months after so many complaints speaks volumes as to what their intent and future direction of this app hold for those that stick around.
Bricks & Minifigures world record attempt (successful) today, 168 tables playing the same module at the same time. Lots of fun!
Explicitly specified 5e rules, not the 5.24 variant. One inexperienced player at our table had a variant human bard and was running it off D&D Beyond. We rolled initiative and he started talking about getting +3 from his proficiency bonus and being able to swap initiative... nope... poor guy built it using 5.24 rules completely by accident. We didn't have time to stop and walk him through editing his character to the correct "Legacy" species and selecting a feat, so he just ran down a feat from the table for the entire module.
Entirely avoidable and not a good experience. The new, inexperienced, and weaker players are the ones who are going to fall prey to this.
Those of us who used paper character sheets were substantially faster at taking our turns. Beyond is good for character building, but paper is SO much faster at the table, particularly if you print off a useful cheat sheet for your spells instead of the half-baked semi-summary that Beyond tries to stick on the "spell list" sheet.
Wait how do you print your owned ddb books? I'm trying to save backups of all my stuff off the website, but I can't figure out how to do that with my bought books. Please pm me if you know how.
Pokemon Master, Hero of Hyrule, Jedi Knight, Minecrafter, Celestial Being Beyond Comprehension, Bounty Hunter, Salmon Runner, Nailmaster, Yarn Yoshi Enjoyer, Animal Lover, Math Rock Roller, Nerd King in all Aspects.
(And, of course, Dragon Tamer. It is in the name, after all)
My singular brain cell bounces around the inside of my skull like the Sony logo, and every time it hits a corner, it generates a coherent thought.
Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. A selector for 2014 and 2024 content is nessecary. Else it's just too unintuitive and I'll stop using D&D Beyond and start using other tools for managing my characters
It is truly baffling that they didn't consider this upon launch. Or did they make the assumption that we'd all leap at the chance to be forcefully shifted to the new ruleset? It does feel like players who weren't ready to adopt the new rules are the afterthought receiving barely an ounce of attention while they're really pushing for people to buy the new 2024 content and make the switch.
Wow, came here for this very reason. Nothing as extreme as what I've read here, just found out that if you filter spells by class, it removes all legacy content by default and you can't get it in the search.
... I'm wondering if everyone creates a new thread here asking for it if that'll get their attention, because clearly they aren't hearing this XD
For the most part.. if the "Free" 2014 and 2024 rulesets were selectable in the campaign sharing, you could get rid of the 2014 vs 2024 overlap in Character building for the campaign. Seems to penalize subscribers trying to finish out their 2014 campaigns... and also clog 2024 campaigns with unneeded legacy content.
It seems like it should be an easy fix to simply be able to include 2024 or 2014 content in the character configuration... Same way that I can choose Critical Role or not to be included as options in my campaign. They are both actively used and you cannot expect that people who have invested heavily into 2014 aren't going to want to still use it. Either you support it or you don't, if it is supported then make the changes please so we don't feel like we're being bullied into abandoning our 2014 through it being completely cumbersome.
This is an easy fix and it's honestly disappointing and sad that it hasn't been done already.
Be fair, fix the issue, keep your customers happy.
I agree with all of this, and would suggest that anyone who feels like a toggle is necessary use the 'Contact Us' page and leave feedback directly. Use the 'Feedback and Questions' form, which lets you specify the product in question (D&DBeyond) which allows you to tell them how you feel about the changes (positive, negative, ect) and then detail what exactly is causing the issue. Those go directly the WotC and if they're seeing at a glance that many people are upset about the changes on top of the sub drops it may move things alone a little quicker.
Takes credit for a massively successful game after letting a small studio take all of the risk
Balder's Gate sucks dog nuts if you are a real true fan of DnD. And it only took Larian 8 years to get the game out from Beta and they still failed badly with all kinds of stupid ass changes from the TTRPG to the game.
The BG3 is another topic, it probably influenced 24e a lot (and or/together with Sigil project), but let not get i to that.
I mean i doubt that somebody makes feedback from this, but i hope so
Currently there is sale and i planned to buy some books. Now? Nope, already feeling acidic taste of regrets for spendi g so much in DnD Beyond because the main usuability of app is away. Yeah, they added that source cathegory which helps in listing tab, but i suspect it will not shown content which have/will have cersion in 24E - like DMG vs DMG24
I think that rule restriction changes should be across the board. Obviously, making certain restrictions would break the game. However, if you want to run a campaign in Eberron, but you have purchased the Wildemount rules, even though you hide those sources for the campaign setting, those rules are still loaded. It even states as much at the top of the campaign's Content Management page. "Blocking a source will hide compendium content to prevent players from reading it unless they own it. No options or content will be removed from other tools such as the character builder, character sheet, or encounter builder.". I am assuming that this hasn't been too difficult to deal with until the problems with controlling source material was shoved in our faces by having two different versions of the PHB running at the same time.
Forcing 2024 rules is breaking existing campaigns. My GM hasn't even purchased any of the 2024 rules and they still exist in the character builder.

And one more thing which making this so stupid is that there is more content for 5e than 24e. Who will buy it now?
As i said, i dont like 24e but at same time i had no doubts that it will be popular and i would transfer eventually.
Why that rush? Do they fear if something? I mean im now more i to other systems but i would not percive tham as real threat
Earnings call.

There is new filter in app, listing - source cathegories. Usable for filtering off 24e
But thats it. Its still mess in character sheets and in search function or in character creation

Is it just me I hate wizards
There just really basic
Not to mention they're played by everyone
