@Badeye We would like to know, if we pay (paid) $20 for this "Playtest" version on DDB, and if WotC eventually turns it into a "real book" with final rules, will those of us who bought this get the full final book as "already paid" or for a $20 discount if the final book costs more than $20?
In other words, will I end up paying twice for this? The answer will determine whether or not I request a refund.

You don't OWN your books on DDB: WotC can change them any time. What do you think will happen when OneD&D comes out?

Agreed - I'm curious what "not become stale" means. If the material ever does become official, will the material in my Beyond change to reflect any changes?
I’m so confused. My only concern is whether the races are finalized yet or not. Or whether there will be updated versions. And whether or not I will be required to pay for the updated versions, seeing as how I thought this was an official setting when I bought it. If these are final, then I’m a happy guy. But if I have to rebuy them later, not cool.
So, Mike Mearls just tweeted the following in response to my questions:
MM "Like every book we produce, we'll be releasing as many of the player-facing mechanics as possible for playtest via UA. The final version will be added to an updated PDF once testing is done, just as we do for print products."
Me: "Can you please clarify: Will the entire contents of the $20 Eberron PDF be coming out for free on UA?"
MM: "No, the Sharn material will not be on UA. This will follow the same path we use with every other official product we've produced."
So... Question to @Badeye and the Mods... Can we buy just the parts that won't be on UA? If yes, then I want my money back and I'll just buy the non-free parts.

To potentially help ease minds further (and since I have to be careful about what we share if WotC isn't ready to share it), here is a tweet thread from Mike that sheds a little more light: https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/1021495845223636994

To use a concrete example:
If you buy this content now, you will unlock the warforged race. You will NOT have to buy that race again at any point in the future. If changes are made to the race, those changes will be updated on D&D Beyond, just as we did with all the updated spells from Out of the Abyss that got edits in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. Another example is the demon lords from Out of the Abyss and the updates they saw in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes - DDB will always use the most up-to-date version of any official content.

Sorry, can you please clarify further:
If I bought WGtE for $20 and it comes with X, and eventually WotC published "Official Eberron Book" that includes X + Y for $40, will I need to pay $40 to get everything, or will my $20 count towards the $40 final book?

This may be relevant to the people in this thread. :)
I'll believe when we eventually see it. I have a feeling the final official Eberron book will have a lot more in it, and cost more.
In other words, we might end up with two products:
1. Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron for $20
2. Eberron Campaign Setting for $(20 + X) with more material than in the final WGtE.
What I mean is, Mearls isn't technically misleading us of WGtE gets Artificer added, but is misleading by omission if the final printed book is not called WGtE and has way more stuff in it.

They might never be a printed Eberron book either. So far WGtE is the only official book we’ll get, and at best it will be Print on Demand when it will be 100% completed.

I thought I read that the stats in that adventure are correct, or that adventure. The ones in MToF are correct for general play…
Just watched The Dragon Talk spot on WoTC's DND Twitch channel - my understanding is that the WGtE is an organic product that will grow as it is tested in the DMs Guild. Basically, any updates/additions they release will be added/changed in the digital product and will eventually be released as a physical product. Once you have bought WGtE, you own its contents, complete with any updates.
The "free" updates for the races that were released in UA today will expire at some point and be removed from DDB. Unless you homebrew them.
Crawford is about to do a Sage Advice segment with Greg Tito which I hope will have more info.
This was all but $12.50 for me after my Legendary discount and another $5 off code via the coupon Neverwinter.
I'm really not too fussed at that price. It seems they will keep it updated, add stuff to it as things get worked out and that if they do a full on official release I won't have to buy anything again.
It's definitely not where I expected to see, essentially, Early Access used. But I'm interested to see how they handle it.
Whilst there may now be a warning on the content when you buy it, and at the start of the compendium entry, the races are NOT marked as playtest material and therefore the toggles on the character creation screen to allow/block the Eberron/MTG/Playtest items are not applying to the Eberron races.
If you select one of the new races, the description does not mention playtest, and if you select the details page, it also has no mention.
I think the biggest gripe I have is that I paid for content I cannot access through the app. If this purchase I made "turns into" the official Eberron content when they are ready to release it then I am fine with it 100%. This is how many game developers have handled something like this with Kickstarter releases. They provide you an early alpha or beta key and that content in the Steamlibrary changes with each official release finally becoming the full retail version at launch.
Still, playtest content or not, I would really appreciate seeing this content in the app :( I am disappointed that when I purchased the product it wasn't marked as PT material but I'm not upset...I know you guys simply followed the directions of WotC on this.

I just want to know when we will get access to psionics. It's so integral to Eberron I can't imagine running a campaign without it.
Current Characters I am playing: Dr Konstantin van Wulf | Taegen Willowrun | Mad Magnar
Check out my homebrew: Items | Monsters | Spells | Subclasses | Feats
Huh, well, there you go; the very first thing I won't be buying on DDB.

Why is this not visible in the app???
