I love dnd beyond it's a good app, nice, fun, and easy to keep track! But the one problem with it that makes it suck and get hated on is the fact that literally EVERTHING IS LOCKED BEHIND A PAYWALL! In a campaign I was planning to do I wanted to be a Artificer BUT NO I couldn't because I have to spend $15 dollars to get it digitally JUST SO I COULD PLAY THAT CLASS! And don't get me started on the races.. I like how you can order from the site for books and stuff but it makes EVERTHING harder I understand this is for a few extra bucks but I rather have players on here that enjoys the app then money..

Used to be you could buy things piecemeal. The artificer class would only have been $3, but you could buy out sections of the books instead of only the whole book. So, feats or spells, or races could be bulk bought for a cheaper price, then that would knock down the remaining book contents price and incentivise you to buy the rest later. The number of books I bought out digitally because it was down to a tenner and I just figured might as well for the compendium details is staggering. The paywall used to be much lower for everyone, especially new players, until Hasbro got greedy.
The site is locked behind a paywall because workers need to be paid and fed. No one should be working for free.
However, D&D is also already free (including D&D Beyond), you just have to ask your local (school, libraries, game stores, etc.) or online (Reddit, Facebook, Bluesky, etc.) communities for help to access physical and/or digital content. Plenty of people with better financial means have paid for the content already, and they are more than willing to share, so ask them for help. As a GM, part of your job is to handle logistics, so you can provide your group with whatever you all need. Connecting with the wider D&D community will make being a GM a lot easier. At the same time, paying for D&D is not your job, even though often times it feels like it because it is up to the GM to provide all the materials; as a GM, your main job is to entertain the group, not subsidize everyone else's hobby.

Be wary about spending real money on this site, I can't even loan or sell my account without violation of the terms, and would risk losing the stuff I bought but do not own. Welcome to the modern version of a company store! Buyer beware!!!

Again, ask the D&D community for help.
