Autoplaying a muted video of a game session (in this case Heroes of the Vale, ep 2) seems especially counterproductive. Most of the time when I open the front page of the site it's for quick access to reference material.
I don't mind seeing it posted to the front page, but all it accomplished by autoplaying was to slow down the page load while I was trying to use other content and play a good chunk of the episode muted in a background tab when I didn't notice it running. Well, I suppose it also demonstrated that I should block autoplaying youtube embeds on this browser, but I don' t imagine that was the goal.
This is also a bad deal for those who get onto DDB on their phones but don't use the mobile skin. If they're not on their WiFi, this video can chew through data.
In general, auto-play can go die in a fire. It's about the worst "feature" to become popular with content providers since pop-up ads.
Autoplay I can deal with. It's the autoplay ones that 'conveniently' minimise to a corner while still playing (even if you've stopped the primary source) that bug the shit out of me.

Looks like it was an input error on that post and unintentional. Nothing's autoplaying now and we don't intend to for anything to in the future - all is well.

Looks like they've tossed autoplay onto the marketplace now. And adblocker goes back on for dndbeyond.com site.
A video was embedded after people requested it to display a preview of the new Tactical Maps Reincarnated product, but it should play muted.
If that's not the case, there is likely an issue with your browser where the parameter isn't working. We have found that the muting is not terribly reliable, so we could end up trying to show that preview in a different way.
It is not an intentional thing and it appears to be working for most users.
Adblock doesn't really affect us in any way, however, so if that makes things better for you, then that's great.
Was getting the video auto-playing unmuted (actually fully cranked blaring through my headphones) on both Firefox 65 and Chrome 72. Wouldn't mind the video available to tour the content, just not auto-playing. It is VERY jarring and if you don't know where to find the content on the page can be aggravating (and the first assumption is that whatever is playing is some 'garbage' video advertising which most autoplay videos are).
It looks like the bottom line is auto playing video and 100% ensuring that video is muted just isn't really possible across all browsers/ situations yet.
Most folks confirm it mutes properly and others (like yourselves) say it doesn't.
The intent was to provide a preview, not annoy, so we have removed the video from the marketplace and used a flat image instead.

Please avoid any sort of auto-playing video period. Fandom wiki sites are infested with obnoxious auto playing videos and even worse they follow you down the page and block content instead of getting out of the way when you scroll past them. I never want to see D&D Beyond become more like other Fandom sites.

I guess I'll post one more time here to emphasize what I shared above - the intent was to provide a preview of the map pack after we received numerous requests to do so. Browsers are not consistent enough to make the experience acceptable for us, so we removed it.
D&D Beyond is going to continue to do the best we can for the community. If something's not working, we'll adjust and move forward.

This is a huge pet peeve for me and I'm yet to find a decent means to stop it universally. And also those popups that ask you to join or subscribe when you've scrolled down the page a bit. If I want to join or subscribe, then I'll damn-well look for a way to do it, and you bugging me with annoying popups just makes me want to close the window and never come back again!

Thanks for your responses. As a constructive feedback, I'd love to see some videos previewing/introducing/demoing official content, autoplay unfortunately didn't work quite as expected, along with audio issues, it also slowed page to a crawl on 'less than stellar' performing devices like my ancient tablet that's great at still content but video confuses its poor aging innerds. Videos waiting within market frames, links to official youtube etc would all be great, with dndbeyond you don't get the benefit of standing in your LGS flipping through pages or talking with the wizened gnome/goblin behind the counter. Anything that helps expand the experience beyond the paragraph and the '1 class 5 spells 3 items' footer would be great.
Hello. For the last week or so on my Chromebook (OS 75) I'm getting the video auto-starting in a separate Youtube window every time I open the main page. Is there anything that can be done to stop this? Very annoying. TX

Agreed, HATE the autoplay video on the front page. Please stop doing that.

Good to hear, thanks for sorting it out!

I see the auto play video in the marketplace and have to repeatedly mute my tab. Obnoxious to say the least.
