I was wondering if a new option could be included which allows those who have purchased the physical copies of the D&D 5th Edition books to be able to gain access to the digital versions of the content through D&D beyond. That means I who have bought the DM Guide will be able to access to only the Compendium, Items, etc. which are part of the book, I will not be allowed access to the digital print of the book. TO allow verification I should provide the bar-code or similar authentication. Now so as to prevent people who will misuse this ability by just copying the barcode and not purchasing there should be another verification method like receipts or in case of loss of receipt maybe authentication from the store that sold the copy to the individual. I understand this is slightly farfetched and doesn't exactly provide a profit to the D&D Beyond system maybe an additional subscription called the Adventurers Subscription that is monthly/yearly fee could aid in providing an additional profit.
In addition to the issues named in the video, keep in mind that Curse has done a LOT of work with the digital files the received from WOTC. They’ve created databases of the monsters, items, spells, classes, etc. They’ve extensively tooltipped and linked the text. They’ve created the character builder, the sheet, etc.
Also, bar codes on books are not unique to the copy of the book: every PHB has the same barcode. And what you propose would increase the costs of the print books, to cover the costs of the program you want.
If you don’t want to pay for content here, you do have the option of home brewing just about everything in the way of character options. (You can’t homebrew warlock invocations, fighting styles, etc.). Or, you can decide the service offered here isn’t worth what they are asking for and simply not use it.
Good day D&D Beyond Team,
I was wondering if a new option could be included which allows those who have purchased the physical copies of the D&D 5th Edition books to be able to gain access to the digital versions of the content through D&D beyond.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Skarred - DM of Realm of Nickholash
