I apologise if this had been brought up recently but I would really like a way to make changes to other players characters. Recently we have had at least one person missing from each session. I have been driving their characters but I am unable to edit hit points or track spells. I understand we shouldn't be able to changeeverything, like equipment and levels, but there at least needs to be a way to allow others in a campaign to control hp, spells, and rests. With the change allowing characters to be shared maybe include another option to allow edits, at least to people in a single campaign.
As DM what I'd like to do is copy a character a player has made and keep them as one of my characters. This is needed when someone is leaving the campaign and I need to keep their character around as an NPC until they can make their graceful exit. + me having a record of which characters have been in the campaign is handy.
At the same time, I'm not interested in the player staying in the campaign, taking up character slots and getting free shared access to content via Master Sub. More than welcome when they can return to the game.

You can unassign characters and then have other players assign them to themselves.
How can I do this? I have a character created by me and later assigned to a player, this player is no longer with us, so I want another player to use this character.

That other player has to “unassign” the character so someone else can “claim” it.
