When creating a feat, under the Modifiers you have the option to increase spell slots, however when you select this for your modifier type, it does not have a subtype, which makes it so you cannot create a feat that adds spell slots.
I'm not sure why that modifier exists, but I don't think it is intended to be used in homebrew.
The homebrew tools are essentially the same tools the devs use to make official content function, so it's like they left one of their tools out where we can see it but we can't use it.
It's incredibly easy to break a character sheet using that modifier, if you don't know exactly how to use it correctly, so the subtypes have been restricted.
I know that the team aren't happy with the usability of the homebrew tools as they are - it was a community decision though early on in the lifecycle of D&D Beyond - wait until the homebrew tools have been nicely developed with a user-friendly interface, or get access sooner to something that would be more limited.
There is a homebrew revamp coming up that will look at all of the challenges encountered and feedback received, to craft significantly better homebrew experience.
That makes sense, I'm just trying to create an artificer subclass, which isn't currently allowed. I tried to use other classes to make the subclass, but that wasn't working so I tried to use feats instead, add a feat for each level. I was hoping to use that modifier to cut down on the spell slots because I was trying to create this "Improved Arrtificer" (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jeqp5Ls9paEh0yZ0vyhJRoNKCJ4yARf2/view ) for my campaign.

Pretty much that.
