I love dndb. Its become a critical component of my games for quick lookup and reference. But to clarify: i mean specifically the website.
Not sure what exactly has happened, but it seems like improvements/polish and new features to the mobile app have just fallen off a cliff. I dont think its right to say “oh its in alpha” as a coverall, as its been in this state for over a year. Listings was the last major, functional addition, while things like search, reliability (tapping on content only to find it blank), and parity with the website version are, frankly, awful.
I find that there is currently no reason to use the mobile app over the website, which I do not understand at all. Was this covered in an update video?
The primary point of the app is off-line access. If you always have internet/data access, then you are correct that the app is not needed.
App development has been mentioned in every update video over the last several months. The next priority is in-app character sheet. A few updates ago, Adam acknowledged that development of the app was far slower than they wanted, but that they expected that to change, as they were on-boarding a new team to focus solely on the mobile app. This is a team already working for Fandom, who were finished with the project they had been assigned, and were now shifted to DDB. Within a few weeks, it was evident to them that the character sheet and character related elements needed to be a separate app (in part due to mobile app size restrictions). So the current app will be rebranded as a reader app (for reading the compendiums and, presumably, the listings there now) and there will be a new app for character sheets. No word on how long that will take.
