Is there a way to use old UA for the character builder that I am missing? If not I think that is an issue. I get that Wizards wants us to either buy the books or digital content (which I do) for new content but the old UA is out there. There is nothing stopping anyone from making a pen and paper version of the characters using the play test versions.
DDB only offers UA content that WotC hasn't archived/considers to be in active testing. You are welcome to homebrew in older UA, but for personal use only (not to publish) as its still WotCs intellectual property

Yes I understand that but those are extra and unnecessary hoops.
It is a minor inconvenience, but the only reason DDB has UA in the first place is so WotC can get more people to test the active playtest. Before that, there was no UA on DDB at all.

It just strikes me as a feature that should just be a thing and it is weird to me that it is not.
Fair enough and thanks for the link. I appreciate the fact that it isn't banned or anything but if the thing existed as a drop down box in the system at one point I just think there should be a section that is legacy UA or something separated from current UA. One of the benefits and selling points of DDB is convenience. You can make very complex characters in minutes and it is fantastic. Making a homebrew version of something that previously existed as a ready made subclass is the exact opposite of convenience.

As far as I know, that's not up to DDB; the only reason they're able to include UA at all is due to their agreement with WotC, and I believe their agreement stipulates that the UA be removed when WotC deems it's no longer active playtest content.

Sensible reason for it to be that way then. Thanks for the response.
Bit of a necrothread I know, but I have a suggestion. We are allowed to recreate archived Unearthed Arcana in non-public homebrew. I've tried my hand at making a couple things in D&D Beyond's homebrew editor, and I see we can base it off existing things.
Can we not add archived Unearthed Arcana to this section? So that I can pick it off a list to use for personal homebrew?
Take the latest expansion book, Tasha's Cauldron. I own it on D&D Beyond and have access to the Aberrant Mind sorcerer. I currently have a character I made using the UA for Psionic Soul Sorcerer however, and I would like to be able to create another. Aberrant Mind was based off Psionic Soul, so I own the content it was published to, all I want is to be able to save that earlier iteration as a private homebrew choice.

Nope. Once it is archived it is basically gone except for things already using it.
If you want it as private homebrew, you will have to use the PDF and build it from scratch.
