Yesterday I attempted to share one of my characters with my DM by sending him a URL link to the character's page, but was dismayed to learn that not only does the page require you to login beforehand, but then after logging in says something to the effect of a 404 error or "you do not have permission to view this character" etc. It strikes me as bizarre that there isn't some kind of public sharing option for characters that have been created using DND beyond, or a check box to mark a character as public or private and sharable via a url.
Currently the only way to achieve something like this appears to be exporting a PDF of the character sheet and sending it to the other person. Given the obvious work that has gone into making DNDB more visually appealing than a traditional black and white character sheet, this seems like a waste. Are there any plans to implement this kind of feature in the near future?

It has been requested by several folks on the forums, whether or not they implement it is another question. Though they have been good about implementing requests from users when there is enough interest.
I would love this. It'd also be great for those folks who keep a public campaign diary or do an actual play podcasts. Readers/listeners could easily be directed to a well-designed, fully official character sheet.

It doesn't sound like OP's DM uses the site. People are asking for something different than what the site already does: namely, having shareable links so that our characters can be viewed by the public/audiences of our choosing outside of just DDB users.

Sure, but until we get the supported features we want, it's good to know the workarounds.
I would at least like a useable text based output I can cut and past into email / forum for PBP games. Right now this is not possible as both the website and pdf are not usable this way.
If you use Discord for PBP, the Avrae bot allows you to import your character sheet from DDB and gives you that functionality (plus lots of other cool things--it's rad as heck).

The DM first needs to create a campaign on the site. After filling in all necessary information, there is a link on the campaign page which they copy, paste, and send to the players. The players follow the link and choose to add or make a character to add to the campaign.
Go to your campaigns, click the link to the campaign you'd like to invite them to, and then at the top right of the screen there will be a link surrounded by a dotted blue box. there's a button below this to "copy link." Do that and share the link with the player.

It would also be great to be able to share my character sheet with another non-DM Beyond member for the purpose of playing that character when I can't make a gaming session. Our group does this frequently with paper character sheets. If a player can't make it, another player will often play their character for that one night. A feature to facilitate this digitally would be great!
I'm really surprised with all of the Critical Role stuff going on around here that a shareable character sheet isn't available yet. I want to see their character sheets. =)
+1 I only found this thread because I was searching for a 'Share Character' feature that I was certain just *had* to be there....DDB folks, I hope you make this possible in the future.

You can unassign your character in the campaign, and another user can join the campaign and claim the character for that night.
Here's the changelog about the feature, for more details:
Unless I'm mistaken, I think BadEye has mentioned in the Live Q&A streams that shareable character sheet links is a planned feature. Currently, the team is working on a revamp of the character sheet (which you can preview in the previous Q&A's, I think around the 1 hour mark on each), and my guess is they want to roll that out before adding any more bells and whistles to the original sheet.

Please DND Beyond overlords, make character sheets shareable via a public URL.
Kind Regards,
Badger

Was looking for the exact question that OP had. Makes me a sad panda that i can't share my character sheet with my DM =(
How does a DM invite a person to their campaign? I haven't been able to find this feature.

I am the Inquisitor Imperitus. I am judge, jury, and executioner. Draw your last breath now, as I send you to the Nine Hells.
Cool, thanks!
