I'm trying to figure out how to add an item I found during an adventure. For example, a note from an NPC or a key that goes to an unknown lock. Thanks for the help!
What about things that you can't use. For example I am playing a rogue and found a Dwarven Plate set but I cannot add it to my inventory from the character screen.

In the equipment tab go to "Other" then "Possessions" and he/she can manually type it in!

D&D Beyond FoundersAs standard the equipment list is filtered to items that the character can use.
When you click the "ADD ITEMS" on the character sheet, there are three check boxes underneath, labelled:
These act as filters. If you uncheck the box next to Proficient, then you will be able to see and add items that the character cannot use.
