I know that this thread is very old, but in case anyone is curiouse here is my answer:
Both Bahamut and Tiamat have billions of dragon followers across the planes, so I feel it would balance out and they would both be destroyed (along with much of the multiverse).
still though, I'm a supporter of Bahamut. Why? I don't want to die
I know these two dragon gods are meant to be evenly matched, but by personal opinion who do you believe would win, and why? Be as specific or vague as possible, just provide an explanation.
Just like you said, they are meant to be equal. So no one truly wins.
Tiamat is both indecisive and unoriginal. Couldn't just be the, like, turquoise or salmon dragon or whatever like a normal gigantic divine embodiment of an entire alignment among a population of dragons, no, she had to be all the colors, or at least the ones the other chromatic dragons already had. Nerd.
I believe the closest we've gotten as to an asnwer with this was what happened with Paladine and Takhisis in Dragonlance at the conclusion of the war of souls.
Effectively, Tahkisis (queen of darkness, mother of evil dragons and prettymuch always depcicted as being Tiamat by another name) had managed a hell of a Coup; The dragon overlords (Great worms of such ridiculous power they could credibly threaten her) were pretty much all dead, the rest of the Pantheon was too decrepit to oppose her directly due to her having moved Krynn someplace else and thus prevented any of them from being able to commune with their followers...
Paladine (basically Bahamut) wound up weaponizing the balance against her by renouncing his godhood and becoming a mortal man which ~due to the nature of the cosmology of the dragonlance world~ caused his equal and opposite to become a comparable entity, in this case a mortal woman.
Not saying this is how every iteration of this fight goes down, but it's about the best answer as to who wins.

Well we only have the stats for Tiamat. So until her brother's stats are revealed it's all speculation.

They’re both in Fizban’s. Well, aspects of them are.
A reply over 2 years later, in a thread that's been silent for over a year, and was already old. But your post was so good and relevant I had to repond! With my first post even, first one in all my years on here. My apologies nonetheless 😅

(Tldr: Bahamut would win/tie everytime if self sacrifice can force a tie / is keeping Tiamat in hell atm, thus sustaining the current tie, but not outright defeating her. If a sacrifice tie isn't an option, then Tiamat wins simply because she can and will do everything her evil morals will allow her, which is anything needed to win. Which Bahamut would not stoop to nor would he expect/think of some of them since he doesn't think the way she does.)
This is an amazing take, and good case for Bahamut winning! If this is an option, then 100% Bahumut would do this if it comes down to it and therefore win. Even if Bahamut dies before Tiamat, Bahamut wins, or rather doesn't lose. He forces a tie. Because Tiamat stripped of godhood and powers is nothing, would feel like she lost, and will die without any additional significant effect on all of existence.
However, if that isn't an option! I have to give it to Tiamat, no matter how much I want Bahamut to win. Maybe Bahamut finds another way to tie it via self sacrifice, but them supposedly being perfect twins power wise makes that hard. I'm giving it to Tiamat for similar reason that Bahamut would win/tie if self sacrifice tie is an option as it is the ultimate "Good" things to do, but Tiamat has the upside of being Evil. Meaning she will do anything and everything to win. Deception, destruction, involving innocents, corrupting people/places, and every other underhanded horrible thing in the Playbook of Evil. And Bahamut wouldn't even think of some of those things, due to being so Righteous and Good. Sure, he would think of quite a few options as they are things he has to oppose. But it's the evil plans that are more out there that will get him, or it's the nasty details within Tiamats plans that Bahamut did predict, those details will be one of his possible downfalls. Plus let's not forget that Bahamut doesn't want to destroy Tiamat, well he might want to, be knows if he does then the balance is upset and that he can't abide nor does he believe that to be good for the general state of existance
I can see Tiamat staight up lose, if Bahamut actually does his best to beat Tiamat, because of that same evilness. Since she is pure evil she'll saborage her own plans via paranoia or accidentally creating the heroes that eventually disable/weaken her, or any big trope for evil that self sabotages. But again, then still only if Bahamut actually tries to defeat her.
In conclusion on who I think actually wins: Tiamat can win, she would actually kill Bahamut if given the chance. Bahamut would at best tie, if only because he wouldn't willingy upset the balance by being the only one of them to be left. (Which is kind of the current status quo, where Bahamut keeps slapping Tiamat back into hell, sealing her away until she eventually escapes and is slapped down again.)
But yeah, I'm rooting for big buddy Bahamut to sustain the current tie. Currently Tiamat is still causing issues, sure. But the cosmic issues that would occur when they both die? I'd think those are worse than the ones she is causing, backed up by Bahamut's current plan of, wait for it, sustaining the current tie! Since otherwise he'd probably have killed her already, with or without him having given up his divinity or life himself, he's had the changes to do so plenty of times. So it's most likely worse if one or both die / aren't deities anymore and only a last resort kimd of option. Or when it's the option that all but ensures the least amount of undeserving lives are lost/harmed. (Note I said undeserving instead of innocent. I think there is a difference, anf Bahamut cares even for the undeserving that aren't inncocent)
Personally, I feel that we get a few players, kill tiamat, get a few more players, go down to the nine hells, and destroy her spirit, (therefore making Bahamut weak, cause of cosmic balances) and then rule over the world.
Don't worry, I'm just a player and BBEG in a campaign where My goal is to rule the world, the party is trying to stop me, but they don't know who I am and I'm traveling with them.

Timat in god form would destroy bahamut in god form in 5e Timat has like 3 times more Hp Timat also has the Chromatic Wrath

Tiamat?
Neither. Because I'm rooting for Phoenix.
Who gave dragons extended life or immortality? Phoenix.
If they can give long life, they can just take it back as easily.
I read 2 Bahamut stat blocks and a Tiamat block.
As I plan a altered Tyranny of Dragons campaign, Bahamut stats seem better with one saying Cr 40 specifically.
It'd certainly be close. However, when it comes down to it...
The Pink Dragon would win! Or the Time Dragon!
