i am wondering if the Elf (Mark of the Shadow) who has spellcasting in his race needs components to perform a spell such as invisible, silent image or darkness witch are given for example.
Shape Shadows: You know the minor illusion cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the invisibility spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
so you turn level 3 and can cast invisibility once per long rest for free if you already have the components to performe the spell right ?
Abilities only do what they say they do. It will explicitly state that you don't need material, verbal, or somatic components if it allows you to cast the spell without them. Because the ability doesn't explicitly state that you don't need material components you still need them.
Yep. Basically, all spellcasting must follow the general spellcasting rules unless they state otherwise. Sometimes, non-class abilities that let you cast such spells will explicitly make an exception to the rules on components – but if they don't, such spellcasting still requires the default components for those spells.
Shape Shadows: You know the minor illusion cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the invisibility spell with this trait. Once you cast either spell with this trait, you can't cast that spell again until you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
it says “either spell” does that mean you can only cast minor illusion once per day? And what if you are a shadow mark elf play a shadow sorcerer, can you technically cast minor illusion with your spell casting feature so you don’t lose the ability to cast it again? Also what if you know the invisible spell and have second level spell slots, can you cast invisible even you’ve used shape shadows to cast it or does the ability prevent you from casting it again in any way?
Hey everyone,

Thanks for your help! :)
The ability will say if the spell doesn't require components. Unless it states as such, components are still required

I’m confused about this feature:
