So I was under the impression that owning content on dndbeyond then led to a discount on books that contain that content. That absolutely doesn't seem to be the case for monsters of the multiverse. Some of the statblocks are reworked from scratch sure (warpriest looking at you) but others are.... Best I can tell functionally identical barring the new presentation scheme (Champion for example) and some are *minimal* changes at best.
This book is absolutely selling errata for the price of a whole book and it's disgusting.
Thorough misunderstanding of the discounts due to an alt-text label.

What led you to this impression?

"Orcs are savage raiders and pillagers with stooped postures, low foreheads, and piggish faces with prominent lower canines that resemble tusks." MM p245 (original printing) You don't OWN your books on DDB: WotC can change them any time. What do you think will happen when OneD&D comes out?
Note that anything you spend on an element from a book reduces the cost of purchasing the whole book if you decide to do so later. This is also true of bundles: for example, if I purchase the Tabaxi race now for $1.99, the cost of the race bundle from Volos is reduced by that amount (from $9.99 to $8.00)
These are all new statblocks with updates made. As referenced in dozens of posts previously these new stat blocks are not replacing old content and if you own the previous content you will not gain access to these updated stat blocks. As such the cost is not reduced as it is not the same content. Again, previously mentioned prior to the book's physical release in the 3 pack months ago.
I'm just curious if there is anything that is going to be done to compensate those of us that have purchased The Elemental Evil Players companion or Volo's guide. These are now no longer useful. This just opens it up for you to change bits and pieces of errata whenever you want and sell it as a new book that we have to buy.

To my knowledge, no. As you still have access to those books. There is still lore and other things in that book you're able to use, you don't *have* to use the "new" races at all.
Nor do you *have to buy* any book that they put out.
I'm just curious as to what is new about a lot of these statblocks. For example on champion the *only* change was moving second wind to the bonus action section. For black abishai the scimitar does force instead of slashing as a second example.
Thats not a new or updated statblock. That's errata at best.
You do t need the new, changed stuff so I don’t imagine anything is going to be done. Products grow, advance and change often. My 2015 vehicle is way behind the new ones but certainly the car manufacturer isn’t going to do anything about my car…

Yes, when you buy an element of that book.
If you buy the Tabaxi from Volo's, Volo's is reduced by that amount. Tabaxi from MotM is not an element of Volo's. You don't get a discount on the PHB if you buy Dragon of Icespire Peak just because they share certain monsters. If you want a given book, you will have to buy the full price of the book (bundles and sales notwithstanding). The offer is that you can buy each book piecemeal if you wish.
Which is remarkably fair, to be honest.

Fun fact - You actually do. This has happened in the past with Tasha's and Xanathar's and even this book. If I look at an account that has one of the latest adventures that has a new monster in it they get a discount on the book.
So it isn't the element of the book it's the element of the game system that they use to determine the discount.
(note I definitely agree that this policy of theirs at least excluding monsters of the multiverse is very fair and a big reason why I'm here)

Maybe it's different for the compendium, then. The DoIP example I gave is true, you don't get the discount on the compendiums for having bought DoIP or, in fact, LMoP. I've not bought a sourcebook yet since I prefer to run my games in the traditional ways, but maybe it's different.

Ah! I have solved the mystery. DoIP and LMoP both use Basic Rules statblocks. There's nothing to buy to run them or to look up the relevant information for them so they wouldn't provide a discount for any other books. I think DoIP *might* have something with the sidekick statblocks but I'm not sure.

But it was the same exact elements like the warforge in eberon, wasnt it ? When it's added to another book you get it for "free" aka a rebate, isnt it?
I am more surprised by the disparition of volo's lore while nothing comes to replace it.

Warforged in wayfinders had subraces vs the rewrite in rising from the last war so that's actually a good example to get *all* rewritten statblocks in this book for free if you own them lol. (for anyone unfamiliar the original warforged race in UA and then **published** in wayfinders had 3 subraces : Juggernaut, Skirmisher, and Envoy as well as an AC based on proficiency bonus. It was completely rewritten from the ground up effectively for rising from the last war) - You are also correct that you got it "free" when rising came out.
I'm not terribly surprised that the volo/mordenkainen lore isn't here since it technically is FR specific to an extent. But I'm definitely surprised that those two books were full on deprecated without much notice (I don't think dndbeyond even announced it before last week). Like if you're going to kill some lore just do it like they did with SCAG - take it out back (into errata) and delete it.

This is not accurate and never has been; D&D Beyond has never provided cross-book content discounts. For example, when Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes released, you did not get a discount for owning the demon lords from Out of the Abyss, even though they were reprints. The same is true for the content shared between Tomb of Annihilation and Volo's Guide to Monsters, or the Tortle Package and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount.

That's not what I meant, so if I got something right it was by mistake.
I actually mixed the warforge and the artificer.
The artificer was in "rising fron the war" and then in tasha. I was asking if you got a rebate on tasha when you bought "rising". (I bought both, but dont remember).
EDIT: I remembered paying Tasha a lot less. I bought those 2 at the same time.
