I think it's a reasonable assumption that all the developers are hard at work putting the finishing touches on or fixing the last bugs so they can actually release the character sheet revamp. It definitely seems like they are extremely close to releasing it, based on the progress they've been showing in the developer update videos.
I would agree. Maybe we see something in the next couple weeks, eh? 😉
Adam already said June so we know that. My last guess is this Friday during Origins.
This right here. It has to be. Right guys...right.
I'm pretty sure the same was said about SoME. :D
As I said, my guess is we'll get a preview of the new sheet on mobile tomorrow. Then we'll get the new sheet on the 30th.

You know, I'd actually be pretty okay with that. To be honest I feel certain the new character sheet, while it will have its bugs, will be a solid improvement from a functionality perspective. I really want it, but my hype has died down enough to just be happy when it comes. However: I'm downright anxious of the mobile sheet.
I use mobile exclusively for playing (laptop for DMing) and any of my players who use DDB also use a tablet at the table, so I'm wracked with worry that the mobile version will not be great - especially since they've said they focused on desktop first. Hopefully that means they brought some great desktop-esque functionality to the mobile, but... I'm concerned. If we got a preview of that tomorrow to relax my doubts, I could be more patient.
I myself want the new sheet but the currant one works good for me, that said I do hope the mobile sheet will be like the new online sheet. I hope we can download our Characters and have them saved on mobile. I hope that eventually they will allow the characters to stay the same kind of like dropbox or onenote, so we play for abit and then go home where you have access to wifi and can just update the online version by doing a character upload.
And the last thing I will say is that the game has shifted from a tactical, simulationist game to a storyteller game. This is just a fact. Now, if you *need* to still carefully weigh your character's gear to the nearest gold piece, and carefully craft a list of containers that say where everything is then go ahead. I was just indicating that I would forgo using that option.
Key word 'option' so good you don't need to bother with it some do.
I do DM and if you pick up a bag of gems, don't tell me you removed them from the bag and lose the bag you lost the gems too.
If you obtain a bag of holding and don't tell me what you've put in it you are carrying a 15lb empty bag
"And the last thing I will say is that the game has shifted from a tactical, simulationist game to a storyteller game. This is just a fact."
No, it's an opinion, and not one backed up by evidence. I've played in storyteller games. D&D ain't that. There are a few story-focused innovations in 5E, but the core of the game remains overwhelmingly focused on tactics and combat.

While it is definitely true that pure storytelling games are something a lot different from D&D, it is just as true saying that D&D is now more RPG and story-driven than it was, let's say, in 4th edition.
The focus has been shifted back towards things that you can do outside of combat, social skills, personality traits and backgrounds, utility spells and features. It is still far from a storytelling game, but it sure is not as simulationist as it was back in the days, and can now accommodate more story-focused adventures and campaigns with little to no tweak the rules.

The game is what you make it, every group plays it differently. I like to have a good combo of RP and combat. 5th edition does seem to be easier for story based but on it's foundation is a tactical game. Yes there are other games out there that are better for just story and RP. If you're enjoying the game you're not doing it wrong.
Two hours and 15 minutes until hopefully they tell us some good news.
...it is just as true saying that D&D is now more RPG and story-driven than it was, let's say, in 4th edition.
No it's not. Not even close. And honestly, this is such an elitist, nonsense attitude that I absolutely loathe. I use just as much minis as I did in 4e, and as I did in 3e, and as I did in 2e. I run TotM games just the same as I did in all editions as well.
Roleplaying has absolutely zero to do with rules. In fact, it is the antithesis of them. You neither need, nor have, any rules for roleplaying. It is something that is done entirely independent of the rules. Rolling a skill check isn't roleplaying, it's still part of the rules system. Using a tool isn't part of roleplaying, it's using the rules system. Utility spells are not roleplaying, they are part of the rules system.
The fact also remains that whether you play 1e, 2e, 3e, 4e or 5e, whether you use minis, or all the rules, or some of the rules, you still can have just as much or as little roleplaying in your D&D games as anyone else, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I've only been playing for like a year, give or take, but everything I've absorbed about 5e is that it's greatness comes from its flexibility.
If you want to run it super crunchy, you can.
If you want to run it rules-light, you can as well.
I kind of do a mix. I use maps and minis for precise tactical combat, but I also reward Rule of Cool ideas if it adds to the experience but maybe bends the RAW a little. Social situations still come down to a skill check, but if the player does a convincing job of roleplaying, I secretly lower the DC.
What I think the point that Crotalus was trying to make (and I may be totally off) is that a game that's as open-ended as 5e can never truly have a 100% comprehensive digital toolset, because there are always going to be rare things that no one else accounts for. I think Curse has done a good job of getting very close to that, but the further you stray from RAW, the more frustrating a system like DDB is going to be for you.

I did not imply that you absolutely cannot RP in 4th edition, I just said that 5e is more welcoming of the concept.
I do not like 4ed, that much is clear, but that does not make me an elitist, I believe (apologies if that's the impression I gave). While I do agree that rules do not make the RP, I still believe they can help it. If the system takes into consideration social situations and includes tools and features towards social interactions, that is helping the RP, imho. Is it absolutely necessary? not at all, you can RP even without the necessity of any RPG system at all, if you want. Can it help? I believe it can.
I also did not say that using minis makes a game less RP or storytelling capable, I believe in quite the contrary, in many situations they can help less imagination-capable players. What I was discussing is D&D being a combat-centric and simulationist. 5e still has elements of that, undoubtedly, they are two of the staples of the game, but I believe 4e was much more focused on those than 5e is, that is all.

Meh... It was confirmed not today T_T. He also said no new updates this month which... what... I hope he means like new stuff... other than the sheet...
I'm sad my players won't have it to play with for tomorrow's session, but I'm really the only one who keeps up with this stuff and none of them have complained about the old sheet, so I suppose they'll be fine.
I vote they give us a new screenshot every day until it comes out to keep the hype fresh.

That’s my bet too. 11:59:59 June 30th, and it’s only going to be the online version.
