I'm as excited as anyone for the new sheet because I think it's going to be so much better than the current version, but perhaps a lot of this pain and anguish could've been avoided if they were a little more clear about the fact the early screenshots were just mock-ups and they hadn't actually started implementing things yet.
I want to seriously, earnestly state that I'm not posting this in a trolling way, but as a counterpoint to illustrate I thought I had been clear about it in the first dev update it was mentioned:
As we went along and I started to see the "pain and anguish," I realized that the message posted right at the top of the rough mock still in design and me calling that out in the dev update perhaps wasn't clear enough - hence the change to bucket our development updates into what is currently in progress versus what is upcoming.
For everyone out there, I'm happy to see excitement around what has been an enormous undertaking by the team. I'll have more to share this week - stay tuned!
Badeye/Adam (the project lead) has been very clear from the beginning that they do not announce expected release dates until everything is in the bag/certain; dates are simply too likely to change and it creates disappointment/lack of trust in customers. What a lot of us are pushing back against is your assumption that they would have announced a date by now if it were coming our before the end of the month. Many of us who have been around since they beta know that is simply not how DDB does things, regardless of what the perceived "industry standard" is. That was the reason for my earlier question, not to claim they were a wildcard (unless you wre using that word in a way I am not familiar with)
The existence and Badeye's frequent use of thenews and announcements thread proves he is not at all against making announcements and does regularly.
So what your saying is that I have a guess of it being next month and people were sure it would be this month, but your REAL complaint is that I have an opinion that you have deemed as wrong? I mean Badeye/Adam has said they can't say a specific date but he has also been suggesting quarters and other have been referencing his comments as indicating it would release this month. If what your saying is true why are they not getting the push back that I am getting? You can say my opinions are wrong but they have in fact announced several releases to the mobile app and other features prior to their release during monthly videos I have seen and even through critical role before the release. I would be REALLY surprised if they don't do an announcement on critical role about the release of the character sheet revamp prior to the general release and also suspect that the cast of critical role likely also got the test version to play with. (I am in Japan and work during the live session so I don't get to see it until it releases on youtube on my Tuesday. So if they said anything last week I don't know about it until tonight)
I just checked, and aside from an announcement about a maintenance window, there haven't been any new threads in the News and Announcements forum since December of 2017. The various homebrew features that have been released this year were not announced there, they were announced on the Changelog page, after they were released.(For that matter, most of the announcement threads I see in the News And Announcement forum were posted afterorimmediately before updates were released)
I'm not saying that the release is guaranteed for June: it may very well be that things came up and it will be delayed into July. All I'm saying is that basing the assumption that it will be delayed to July on the fact that they haven't announced it yet is not consistent with my experience of previous feature releases and updates.
I want to seriously, earnestly state that I'm not posting this in a trolling way, but as a counterpoint to illustrate I thought I had been clear about it in the first dev update it was mentioned:

Is it weird that when I read this, I hear it in Badeye's voice in my head?

You need to have it in large, bold red type, flashing as an overlay atop the preview, otherwise people will miss it, duh.

Sure but what I am saying it this is not like other updates. There is a lot more anticipation behind this. But BadEye said"I'll have more to share this week - stay tuned!" so I am thinking we are getting an announcement. I am sure we are all hoping its the announcement of when they are releasing the character sheet revamp or simply that its own line "now" being the moment we get the release. Considering the thread I hope so. lol

The lack of inflection in text means that a reader of any post adds their own inflection as they "verbalize" it in their head. I write long and repetitive in an effort to be clear and avoid my intent from being skewed or inverted. I am also bad at examples. It is common for people to skim my posts pull out the idea they think I mean or want to argue against or focus on my bad example instead of the point I am actually trying to make. I apologies for the confusion my failure to be clear and concise creates.
Sounds like it'll be released during Critical Role this week from what they're saying above.
Critical Role uses the current sheet. Wouldn't it throw them into disarray to introduce a revamp during episode production? Seeing as they have the following week off for moving, this may provide more time to become acclimated to the new sheet/features.
Although there's no way to know for sure, my guess is that the actual sheet is probably done, and now they're making final passes through everything to make sure there aren't any major bugs left.

first screenshot you posted actually didn't have that, just saying (though of course the post above the screenshot did say it's a WIP). Despite the "not too long" time frame of 9 months since this post, I'm still really excited for the new sheet. It might be enough to make me resubscribe and try to convince players it is worth using.

Just my guess. : )
No. Quite the opposite. The revamp will be so awesome that it will, in fact, immediately improve their play. Therefore, there is no reason to delay until after their game.
I am definitely not saying this because I very badly want the new sheet before Friday so that I can print out awesome exported character sheets before my 'gaming retreat' this weekend.
In fact, I'm thinking that releasing before Critical Role is what makes the most sense, so that the CR folks can advertise it on Thursday.

Worth reminding that due to moving sets there will be no critical role this week.

First of all, let me start by saying I really appreciate you taking the time to comment on all of this.
I'll be the first to admit that I probably misunderstood what you meant by "Rough Mock" in that screenshot, or what "still in design" actually means for you guys. I'm not a web developer, nor do I use agile development, so I'm sure some of it just got lost in translation. When you showed what looked like a functional web page in the second preview in March, I incorrectly concluded that the design was done and that you were well on the way to implementing it all (the version you showed there certainly appeared to be more than just a mock-up for design purposes). Maybe you even stressed in that video that development hadn't actually started and that you were still in the design phase, I don't know. That second preview was the breakdown point for me, where it sounds like you were still not actually doing active development but it certainly appeared to me (and probably many others) that you were.
TL;DR - You guys are doing great work, and we are all just extremely excited to get our hands on the new sheet. The current trend of differentiating between "active development" and "short-term roadmap" is absolutely appreciated.
Sounds like it'll be released during Critical Role this week from what they're saying above.

I mean I know you're joking but what you say does have merit. If the idea of the new sheet is ease of use then what better way to prove this. I'm just waiting for it to be released at 11:59PM on Saturday for the ultimate troll.

Yes, I'm going to willfully ignore the context around those two words. You can't stop me!

Not at all! :)
Now, you should all just go watch this some more, while you wait a few more days for the new character sheet.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain it will be the actual release. I think the community would be in an uproar if it was only a release date announcement.

Not complaining though - I used to write an app called Masterplan, and I never told people what I was working on for exactly this reason.
