Long story short, my players are about to go into a huge wild-magic boss fight in which they're going to be getting polymorphed into random beasts for one phase of it. I'm writing up a list of beasts that they can potentially change into and make sure I've got the right tokens for it, and I want to make sure that I don't set anyone up to have a boring experience because they turned into an Axe Beak and only have one attack. What beasts do y'all think would be the most fun to play?
CR-wise, I'm not too fussed - the party is level 6 and I'm intending for the battle to be hard AF, but if there's a random chance of them shifting into something super weak or super strong, that'll just add to the chaos.
Also, I'm going to be very liberal in my definition of beast-like creatures. E.g., things like the Owlbear, Unicorn, Griffon, etc., are all perfectly fine for this because although they aren't technically beasts, they're still very much wild animals. I'd say the most un-beast creature I'd consider would be something like a Blink Dog.
I think it would be helpful to know what CR range of creatures you are interested in to help narrow the search. Also, how are you planning to share the creature stats with your players? If you are using DnDBeyond then suggesting a creature from material you and/or your players do not own probably isn't very helpful.
That said I think Warhorse and Giant Toad have some interesting mechanics to them.
