I have just Cancelled my DNDBeyond subscription, and I used the feedback to tell them exactly why. and even if they back pedal, I am not sure Ill come back. Yes, things needed to change in the OGL, I liekd restricting it so it couldnt be used to create racist, homophobic, bigoted, etc material. thats good, but the demands for royalties on a scale that they could change the threshold for AT ANY TIME, and more importantly, claiming flatout ownership of other people's (small time content creators) work to use as they saw fit.... That cannot stand. Goodbye from 1 former customer WotC
I have cancelled my annual sub stating in the survey they can win my business back by by keeping d&d open. I will not, however change to a new system. I make most of my own encounters and monsters and already own the books I need. No point in making my players learn new systems because I personally don’t agree with the direction a company is going. I will continue to play using the system we know and are enjoying, but I will stop buying new content from wotc. Hopefully they reverse course, things were going in a good direction with a growing community.
It was me. And frankly, I wish I had been less provocative with my language when I wrote it so the results wouldn't be regarded with such skepticism. Sadly, you can't edit it after you publish the poll.

Yeah I canceled my sub. It doesn't end until April, so there's time for WotC to try to win me back, but honestly, they may not be able to.
It's a shame, 30 years of being a DM, and I've been a big supporter, but I guess all good things eventually end.
My complaint isn't that they'll destroy the 3pp, because I don't believe they have a legal leg to stand on here, my complaint is that they tried.

Goadfang leans forward in his seat, his ale gently sloshing in it's tankard, he says "Let me tell you a tale that will make the hairs on your head stand up and ask for the check..."
The new OGL (OGL 1.1) is a slap in the face to the D&D community and a betrayal of the original intent (and promise) of the original OGL.
Unless WotC backs off of it's current position, I plan on migrating all my games to a different system and terminating my subscription to D&DB. It's heartbreaking to think, but I have no intention of supporting a company that exercises in this kind of over-reach against the community of players, developers, writers, and DMs that have made the game the success it is today.
I literally own everything WotC has published for DnD5e - even the stuff that is of questionable quality - and prefer the content made third party in many cases. My interest in 5e was only because of the amazing community out there. I would have gone with a completely different TTRPG when I returned to gaming a couple years ago had it not been for the content of people like Critical Role, Acquisitions Inc., Dungeon Dudes, Matt Covill, How to Be a Great GM, and many other contributors. To NOT recognize that they are the driving force behind your product's success and popularity is unforgivable.
I will be watching, very carefully, for a change in position from WotC... and if I don't see one, I'll be voting with my feet... and my wallet.
Sadly, my renewal came JUST before all this started. Or I'd already have cancelled. I would have printed my party's character sheets and then sent them each a package with my 3 physical copies of the PHB (yes, 3, I have kids, and sometimes they both need one, I usually need one too). And, I'd have moved the group to one of the VTT's and eventually, I'd have moved them to another game.
So, now, instead, I'm cancelling and I'm going to give my players as much as I can in the next 12 months so they get to milk every red cent out of my sub before it disappears and WotC never gets another cent from me.
Cancelled my master tier subscription a few days ago. If they only listen to one language I'll speak it to them. It's actually pretty cool that they've made it so easy to tell them how bad a decision this is. I'll also be waiting for the movie to hit streaming sites. I definitely want to see it but I can't help but think WotC execs are hoping the movie will be what gets them through this storm.
Hit my unsub today. They have until October to change my mind before it lapses
Basically this. Just unsubbed myself and I have until September. Won't be buying more books or resubbing until they roll back, but even that is a grace. Earlier in the week I was waiting for an official announcement to form an opinion. Yesterday, I was going to base my sub's future on today's announcement. Tonight I am unsubbed. Next week it may not matter what they do.
Thank you Wizards! I've been considering branching out into other TTRPGs. You convinced me to cancel my DND beyond subscription. With the money saved I took advantage of the Open Gaming discount at Paizo to try out Pathfinder second edition.
I play smaller games with family so DND beyond was more a convenience than a need. Now I'll get to introduce the next generation to Pathfinder!
I only came back to using D&D last year, which makes it particularly ironic for this old-timer that WOTC has chosen to burn their house to the ground. I won't be staying.
The industry is not the hobby. We gamers were fine for decades without these corporate shills, and we'll continue to be fine as their greed destroys them. We game for the love of it. They do what they do...for money.
And don't fool yourself. Even if WOTC backs off for now, these people are like sharks who think they smell blood in the water. They WILL circle around and try to screw gamers and third-party companies again.
They claim they need the new OGL to protect their intellectual property, although nobody still living created D&D. At the same time they've given themselves the right to outright STEAL the work of independent creators. There is no limit to their hypocrisy.
And it's not as if roleplayers have no other choices. There are far better-designed systems out there, with lots of great supplemental material. If WOTC thinks they have sole ownership of the hobby, they have a huge surprise coming!
Stop pissing and moaning about OGL and pouting and play the Fing game for gods sake. Grab a book roll some dice have some fun....jeeez all you milenials are whining like a bunch of cry babies about " YOur DnD"
FML
Considering a millennial is born from 1981 to 1996, I'd say majority of D&D players that use any form of technology to play are indeed just that.
I'd also say that millennials are what have carried the success of WotC through the 90's MTG and D&D 3.5 » 5 so they probably should listen to their primary player base who are actually trying to just roll dice and play the game.
They don't want to jump through copyright strikes, micro transactions and, paywalls to play. Millenials have seen the world change from basic 80's greed to insidious commercialisation of nostalgia and anti-competitive tactics built into games to make them addictive with obfuscated currencies that make it hard to work out how much actual money has been spent on ephemeral digital ego.
So yeah, when they hear that a non digital game is 'under monetised' by an ex MS exec and see dev diaries talking about VTT and AI, and then seeing that plans involve crushing the home-brew and supplements community that kept them all playing - I think voicing concern is valid, as is demonstrating that the company is making a product they do not want by refusing to buy it.
i hope some will read this. I have been very sad that a game that I have truly loved for over 40 years may be coming to an end. I am not a publisher in any format. I have no twitch or you tube channel. I am someone who has purchased every expansion of dnd. I love the community that has shared the same love for the game as I do. To do what Wotc is doing with the release with the new OGL is wrong and I refuse to continue any patronage from this company at this time. I will start looking for a new gaming system for myself and my friends to play. I hope there is still time for Wotc to do the right thing and stand by the intent of the original Ogl published 20 years ago. I would love to continue with my life long friendship with Dnd and don’t want to say goodbye but I will stand with all publishers who have worked hard on their projects and don’t want them to be stolen from them just because they cannot afford to fight so I will fight the only way I can by not purchasing anything with the harbo logo ever again. I hope that you can find a solution. Mark Gage

Last time I played DnD I dont t hink any of that was a concern for me.....Copyright strikes......micro tranactions........pay walls...... what the hell are you talking about?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The answer to that is "what's coming down the pipe if you let WOTC have its way". You can ignore it if you want, but it won't be ignoring you; you are a potential wallet to squeeze.

You still have full access until your sub runs out.

Well, the time of ORC is at hand.
Cancelled my subscription tonight because of OGL 1.1. Fix the relationship with the community creators and I'll be back.
My annual subscription was set to renew on January 19th, so the timing of all of this is perfect. Cancelled my renewal today.
. . . with a MASSIVE advert for whatever system I pick up in the interim, just so I can boycott Wizards who Smell Toast even more.
