Hello. I am The DnDestroyer. I'm a new player who just got into D&D. Funny thing is, I'm 14. Not many people my age (that I know of) play D&D. I was just wondering if any young people such as myself play D&D like myself. If so, I was thinking of opening a Looking For Group thread for anyone whose interested

Hi. I'm a 14 year old student looking to play D&D. If you don't have a problem with me, I would gladly join your session!
Welcome. Lots of people got into gaming at a young age, myself included. Currently, I run a school club for 6th-8th graders so they exist out there. You can find a part of the forum dedicated to LFG on this site. You should also check out game nights at your FLGS.
Yeah, pretty much anywhere you can buy DND you can find a bulletin board posting LFG. As a younger member of the community you should definitely check out the games happening online via Twitch and Discord.
I know of at least two other folks about your age who use the site. I DM a game at my local library, and the players are all high school students; at least two of them use DDB. I'm sure there are others.
I’m probably older than your parents are, but I started playing D&D when I was younger than you are now. Welcome to a fun and life long hobby that I love!
With most my age in the small town I live in, finding a game is virtually impossible. I also feel some older players have trouble playing with people my age. My grandmother (who's my guardian) told me she played back in First Edition. I was a fan of the franchise before this, but knowing someone I look up to played D&D when it first came out made me even more interested.
When I join groups on this site, I say I'm a 14 year old newbie just so if I play, I don't surprise anyone who's playing

Hi. I'm a 14 year old student looking to play D&D. If you don't have a problem with me, I would gladly join your session!
Glad you're making progress! My son (who is also 14) joined his first campaign about a year and a half ago with my wife and I and a few of our friends. He's now playing with a group of 5 or 6 kids from his school every Saturday afternoon. He doesn't use DDB, but loves reading in general and studies our 5e books quite extensively. Keep asking around your group of friends, you'll eventually get more that are willing to try. If I were you, I'd also check with teachers that you get along with that you could picture possibly being into D&D and ask them to sponsor a D&D club for you and your friends at your school. The teacher may even DM for you guys. Good luck!
My son basically started with his friends and that kicked off interest in high school. I did a one shot for them, and it snowballed from there. Computer gamers are easy ones to bring into the fold as they "get" most of the concepts.
To be honest I feel like there is actually a bit of discrimination against younger players( I'm 15 ) because for some reason I feel people correlate age and competence. I joined my first campaign back in January after having searched LFGs since October I only found one cause my 18 year old brother who also plays told me of a guy in the same grade as me who also liked D&D. I feel people really need to realize that just cause I'm 15 doesn't mean I don't have a brain.
My kids are your age and they love to play D&D. In fact, my 14yo daughter goes with me to some Adventurers League conventions. And I have a 14yo player in one of my online campaigns: I didn't even realize how young he was until we'd been playing together for months. Enjoy the hobby, and may you and it grow together!

I currently DM a game for 11-13 year olds, so yeah I can say they younger players do exist. Moreover, having started gaming in the 80s as a young teen, I remember playing with Adults at the FLGS. Yeah, it might take time to find a group, but you can find one. As to people not accepting younger gamers, I say persevere. I remember just talking to the employees of the FGLS about gaming and eventually they invited me to join what we called "Standing Games" as opposed to the one shots that the gaming shop held every weekend.

I totally agree. The stigma is there. The assumption is that younger players are less competent. This is far from true.

I have seen this as well, as I have watched my son and daughter grow into role playing. Young players can bring a lot to the table. But like ANY player sometimes a stereotype evolves because of a memorable bad experience. And people focus so much on that you get all sort of bad stereotypes. Things like:
Girls can't play RPG/Video games/etc. My daughter would have a word with them, in the shooter of their choice. I can't even begin to snap fire like she does. AND she does play RPG for story and fun but that took work as well. I'm stunned on how older players don't want a girl in the group. Its wrongheaded on so many levels.
Millennials are lazy: The trope is that the game experience is too hard; they expect easy answers to problems and obvious bread crumbs. That they will give up when it gets too hard. One specific experience was a bad player saying they rolled up the wrong character for the adventure, just because they didn't have one skill. The problem with this trope is that ANY bad person can do this, but it gets lumped into "they don't have a brain"
Don't know what they are doing: This COULD be true, but how do you expect new players (of any age) to learn? No one starts as an expert. This statement is more of a reflection of the person saying it; it means "I can't/won't help. I don't want to mentor others" and nothing to do with the young player. The only part that might apply to a young player is if they don't learn. I rarely find that to be true.
My son and daughter have hit these. And it did take work on both of their parts to overcome it. You can't force other groups to change unless they want to. But that also is a good sign on where not to invest time. The waiting and searching is annoying I agree. It is up to us older ones (elder?) to help encourage and support younger ones. Finding the first connections are tough, but that is a problem for getting into any hobby to a degree.
Stereotypes are bad, in game and out. And sometimes the answer is to start your own group, and invite others. I remember starting two different clubs in my middle school and high school.
Don't give up, never surrender and for the rest of the folks who believe in the stereotypes above; GET OFF MY LAWN.

I also wonder if any young players like myself use this site. This site is very useful and it has helped me get to know the basics of DND

Update; I found a person at my school who's interested. He's never played before and is willing to learn!
