I'm using this art as inspiration for my next character, I'm working with my DM to either buff the kobold race or nerf the lizardfolk race to make basically a little leopard gecko rogue.
I have a vague idea of his backstory, but only one idea for a name that I'm not married to. So what ideas do you have?
I am generally pretty horrible with names but I love the character concept, though I would probably look more towards something like Grung than Kobold or Lizardfolk when homebrewing a race for this guy.
Are you able to share a few details about his backstory or a vague outline of personality traits and where you want to go with him? Usually makes it easier to come up with a good name.
Names kinda follow cultures. He seems tribal - although I'm unsure how much you want dictated by the picture. But anyways, feather necklace, blowpipe, loincloth: Seems tribal. Also, being a small lizard, one might think a sibilant name was obvious?
I once had a dragon in a game that was called Skizz. That could work. I came up with a yuan-ti once called Slitherspite, but ... meh, that doesn't really fit, I think.
You could call him Chordata or Squamata (both from the scientific classification of the gecko).
Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
As for the name of your character, I'd go with "Glick" which is a surname meaning "luck" or "happiness".

Francisco. I have a pet leopard gecko named Fransisco and he is awesome.
Eublepharis macularius. That is the scientific name of the leopard gecko. You might not want to use those long complicated words so you could mix them up a little. Euble Macul. Pharis Larius. Euubleph Aris. Macul Arius. I don't know, something like that.
If I was naming a pet leopard gecko, I would probably pick some dragon from mythology. Fafnir, Zmey, Smaug, Glaedr, Jorm, or something similar.
Here are a few ideas for fantasy names. Mix and match them however you wish: Thonkle Cricketcruncher, Zurp Zingwash, Thirbidee Fourthtail (this is the fourth time they have lost their tail), Marko Scaleskin, Zipple Dingbat, Holro Vatigar, Biliby Niliby, Hovard Larpstik, Billiam Wormslurper, Larklock Littletongue.
I hope these help.
Sorry, I hope this isn't annoying, and I have tried to restrain myself from mentioning it, but I can't hold it any longer. The art you have is amazing, but slightly innacurate. Leopard Geckos do not have the adhesive feet of other geckos. Their feet are just small claws so they don't climb up surfaces like other geckos. Also, someone said that using a grung might be better for this character, but that really wouldn't work. Grungs require water to live, leopard geckos live in desert areas. Grungs can climb with sticky feet, leopard geckos can't. Grungs or poisonous, leopard geckos aren't. It just doesn't make sense. The kobold race works well. It fits with how they are nocturnal. Lizardfolk would be cool, but they have too many water related abilities and leopard geckos do not like being in water. Maybe you could add or replace those traits with a homebrew trait that allows you to shed your tail when grappled, allowing you to escape.
As for the name of your character, I'd go with "Glick" which is a surname meaning "luck" or "happiness".
Neat! I'm working on a race based on the blue-tongued skink for my homebrew world, tying in some indigenous Australian mythology to give them innate spellcasting
As for the gecko rogue, he kind of looks like a Stanley to me, but if you want something more fantasy-ish... leopard geckos don't do much more than chirp vocally, so something like Krik would fit
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)

That sounds like a cool idea. I love lizards and I love mythology, so I especially love it when the two are combined.
GUEGAR of Mossleech Furrows, KHAGHAN of Mugwash Woods, ROGART of Fogdale Gully, BABBASH of High Ceiling Creek's
I would use Grung; in the definition change shade for Sun and Water for Sand/Dry dirt pit. Use throwing daggers or darts applied with skin poison on it has weapon with a Gourdin to hit people in the back of the head. With really high sleight of hands to steal all the junk he can see... at least the stuff that triggers him to steal... maybe like certain fruits... or boiled eggs...
LEOPOL of Sunny Crest Hill, RUSTY'S of Yother Hideout Tenthat, BALLAS or BARBRA of Dry Gutters Horns-Nest.
I think I may have said this already, but Leopard Geckos dwell in deserts, so they don't have anything to do with anything found in wet climates. They live off insects like crickets, grubs, and worms. They do not have any venom or poison on them at all. No geckos have any toxins. Leopard Geckos do not have sticky-pad fingers. They just have little claw-like toes so they can't climb up sheer surfaces like most geckos. They are also nocturnal, they aren't active during the day. I would suggest using a kobold or a modified lizardfolk, but a normal lizardfolk doesn't make sense because they have several aquatic features. Grungs make absolutely no sense.
Of course, the above are only suggestions. It is your game, and your fun doesn't interfere with my fun. I just thought I should give you this information in case you wanted your character to be scientifically accurate. Sorry if I come across as rude, this is just supposed to be a friendly suggestion.

Timothy McKnockles (Don't ask, I'm bad with names, but good at being random.)Great character idea. I totally want Gecko people in my world now.

I was inspired to make a Gecko style race, I named Gekkota (the name of the gecko suborder). Here it is: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/1334659-gekkota
