I'm building an Asimar who's wings are made from plants. My party so far is all casters so I figured I'd balance it out by doing a melee person. I've never tinkered with melee classes yet so Id like an opinion on where I should go from here. So far the only nature based melee i could find is bear totem druid which deals more with animals than plants. Then there's Nature domain clerics and oath of the ancients paladin. Though i have no idea if these are any good. I don't want to play something completely useless. Which one would you pick?
Edit: I'm playing 5e. Figured that would be helpful.
Bear totem is a barbarian option, not a Druid option. Both Druids and clerics are full casters, so not as melee oriented as true melee classes. Ranger is nature oriented, and some spells are plant based. If you are interested in Druid, the UA spore Druid might be up your alley. (UA= Unearthed Arcana, which is play test material. You'd need your DMs ok. It is available here on DDB)
Remember that your class choice doesn't /have/ to reflect exactly what your character is all about. You could be any class or subclass you wanted, and with the right flavor added it can be nature-centric. That being said, if you're interested in keeping playstyle and character class married, I'd suggest a Ranger. Their whole motif is nature and the outdoors.

I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
in my opinion, if you want a melee based nature class, then i say you should go with the ranger. they are good at all ranges, and are even better when it comes to navigation in the wilderness. also, i am curious. how did your aasimar get plant wings?

The diety who "birthed" her is a nature god who grew her from the ground
