Has anyone purchased the DMG during the current sale and if so, can you tell me if it includes the upcoming revised 2024 edition of the book?
The sale page for the Dungeons Master's Guide talks about the new content for 2024, suggesting that, if we purchase it through the current sale, we'll get access to the new version of the DMG. However, it's my understanding that the new version won't even be available for pre-order until a few weeks from now.
I attempted to contact support about this, because I don't intend to purchase the content, just to have to do it again in a few months. The response I got was essentially "Dunno, good luck". I think it's pretty ridiculous that I couldn't get a simple "yes" or "no" response regarding their own product. It feels a little shady to me. Here's the response they gave:
"Thank you for contacting Wizards of the Coast Customer Support! At this time Customer Support has no further details regarding this D&D Beyond content. Our team is limited to providing information currently available to the public through announcements and articles."
So, either they couldn't be bothered to actually give me a real response, or they're dodging the question. Not real happy either way. I'm just a poor dungeon master, trying to decide where to soend my limited funds. I really just want to know whether I should wait or take advantage of this sale. Any help would be appreciated.
It almost certainly won't be included. The only products I've seen for 50% off are the core rules (everything else is like 10 or 15%), I think it's reasonable to conclude that this sale, like the last few, have been to try and "shift" as many of the core rules books as possible before they stop selling them at all.
If you want 2014e, now's the time to buy those three books.
If you want 2024e and just that version, you'll have to wait until they release (September, November then sometime in the first quarter next year). I doubt they'll go on sale for another year or two after that.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
Yes, I finally got a straight answer from support regarding the DMG. It does not include the 2024 version. I thought that this was likely the case, but I think the purchase page is pretty misleading. So, I hope that others don't fall into this trap. There is a section that directly references the new version and it's content on the page, misrepresenting what you actually get with the purchase. As of right now, it doesn't seem like they've made any effort to clarify, on the purchase page, that the new content is not included. Feels a bit scammy to me.

I don't see anything misleading on the sale page. I'm not sure what section you're referring to.

If you scroll right to the bottom of the DMG listing there's a section headed "2024 and Beyond" which is the only thing I can think they mean. It doesn't say anywhere you will get an upgrade and it's the standard boiler plate about backwards compatibility they've added to EVERY books listing but it's all I can think of

That's at the bottom of every first-party book listing, for the record, including the adventures.

That's clearly not part of the item entry, it's just boilerplate store page text for upcoming products. You have to scroll way, way past Add to Cart to even see it, much less think they're connected.

Yeah I know, that’s exactly what I said, you even repeated my use of language. However it’s literally the only place on the page that 2024 is listed so that’s the only thing I can think of that might make something think the new book is included. I didn’t say that I thought it was included
Sorry, that was a general "you would have to scroll" not, "you, CunningSmile."
Sorry, got a bit sensitive after both you and LaTia repeated my post back to me like it was news to me 😂
My initial response was to MasterofSmash, who believed the storefront was being intentionally misleading (or "scammy" as he put it.) My second response merely quoted you because you were the one pointing to the section he was taking objection with; I didn't say you agreed with him.

I can see what you're saying. However, as someone who is new to purchasing content on dndbeyond, as I would assume most people searching for the DMG are, I'm not familiar with the standard boilerplate on "EVERY books listing". More to the point, the part I considered a bit scammy, was the fact that, when I reached out to support to ask them about whether the new content was included, the ticket was immediately escalated and the response I finally received days later, completely dodged my question. I didn't jump to conclusions about the content and purchase it, just to ask for a refund. I tried to do my due diligence and it was much more difficult than it should have been, in my opinion.
All I'm saying is, if you're new to dndbeyond and read the sales page for the first book that any DM is likely to search for, it's easy to assume that the 2024 content is included. And had I purchased it under that assumption, I would have been disappointed to find out that it was the same 2014 manual I have on my desk.
The main heading with the largest print says, "What's inside" in big bold letters, then as you scroll down, it has the following text,
"The 2024 Core Rulebooks provide new options for players and DMs along with updates and improvements to the classes, mechanics, items, and monsters of fifth edition. All updates are being done with care to make sure anything from fifth edition will continue to be fully playable.
The 2024 rules revisions are designed to be fully compatible with everything you’re playing today in fifth edition. In response to nearly a decade of fan feedback, the 2024 core rulebooks will offer players and DMs tons of new character options, spells, feats, monsters, items, and more in a fun, balanced, and accessible approach to playing DUNGEONS & DRAGONS."
Nowhere, does it say, that any of the content it's talking about is not included or coming in the future. If this was 2023, I could understand, but it's 2024 and that's what it's talking about. If I hadn't already known that a new version was coming out, I'd have gone ahead and placed my order. Fortunately I knew to ask, but others may not. And had I not asked repeatedly, I would have been left guessing.

The 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide is not available on the marketplace for pre-order or purchase. As such, it is not included in the sale.
