I just can't help but feel that the new Warrior of Elements Monk subclass took a bit too much from Ascendant Dragon. There's still some major differences but they are just a little too close in terms of mechanics and gameplay. Anybody else feel this way?
I see the overlap, particularly with the unarmed strikes, but I don't see this as a problem. If Ascendant Dragon makes a future appearance, that just means it will have some other, possibly awesome but different features.
I definitely agree they have several similarities for sure with the elemental attacks, a larger elemental weapon (breath attacks vs the ranged sphere), and a limited form of flight. They do have different flavors to them though to distinguish them. Plus they apply those similar features in different ways that I don’t see one subclass being better then the other, so I think it’s fine that they both exist. If Ascendant Dragon does get a future new version of the subclass, I can see them make some changes to focus on the Dragon flavor more to further distinguish them.

Not really? I mean I can see the flight and the elemental energy thing, but ultimately they're going to play very differently. Elements is going to do more of a stretchy repositioning punches thing, and probably ignore the heck out of their crappy energy ball that takes a whole action. While Dragon is going to be zipping around lining up groups of enemies to put in its aura and throw out AoE breath weapons in the middle of their attack sequences on.
Ascendant's Flight might not be constant, but the thing it's tied to can now be done at-will so as long as you have somewhere to perch each time you can stay off the ground quite easily. Get up high and cone downward, then land and pummel.
