I see that the Mess Kit is still listed in the site and the new 2024 PHB is already on Sale at GenCon, so I'd think that if it was going away it would already be off the site or would be soon.
That said, I don't think that WotC would remove the Mess Kit as it is part of most standard Dungeon Packs.
I know that there are some YouTubers that have been going through the entire 2024 PHB on their sites as the NDA expired, so if you want to check one of those out, you can see if the Mess Kit is in the book.
Cheers!

it seems unlikely that it'll go anywhere, but the new PHB isn't coming to the site until September, and old material is still going to be here, so this isn't much of an indicator.

That would not be a valid assumption to make for several reasons
Of all the common mundane items - why are you concerned about a mess kit?

Does anyone know if the mess kit will be in the new PHB? Thank you.
Just had a chance to look, and there's no mention of a mess kit in the 2024 Player's Handbook
Because of the that ^ right there.
Do you know how hard it is to role play prepping a meal without chefs tools and without a mess kit??
Yes, I'm serious.
You can still use the one in the 2014 PHB, so don't worry.
You could still use one even if it was never printed in either Player's Handbook. It's a piece of mundane gear. There's no mention of a chefs knife, a chopping board, a rolling pin, or a mixing bowl in either book. That doesn't mean they don't exist
True to some extent. But people being people will probably not remember the little details until they NEED the little details =)
"This tin box contains a cup and simple cutlery. The box clamps together, and one side can be used as a cooking pan and the other as a plate or shallow bowl."
I think the most common choices during character creation are the Dungeoneer's Pack and the Explorer's Pack. One has a mess kit and the other does not. So if you don't have one and you're in the middle of a swamp and tell your GM you boil water to make it safe. He might ask you, what do you boil your water in?
Mostly just curiosity, in earlier version of d&d it wasn’t a thing then it was only to be removed again. I like when stuff my players and I use stay in the books instead of referring to older books when not in the current version.

Except there's nothing to refer to; the mess kit doesn't have any rules and a very minimal description that could literally be pulled from google or wikipedia:

It was in the 2014 PHB so I don't see why it wouldn't, but I'm not sure what impact there'd be (if any) if it wasn't.
