Are you talking about races and feats showing up under official content of their respective sections in the Character menu? If so, each feats and races have their source labeled right under their name. I don’t see any misleading issue there. And if you don’t own the book, they don’t show up in the character builder.
They may not be AL legal, but that doesn’t make them unofficial/homebrew either. If you don’t own XgtE, are you complaining it’s misleading when the options takes you to the market place? or if you have more than one source, are you complaining if sources other from your +1 appears in you builder options? The new Eberron guide works the exact same way.
Mike Mearls confirmed it’s a playtest, because they still lack some options (artificers are one of them), and they left the door open to modify some options along the way by updating the pdf the players bought on DMsGuild. I believe D&D Beyond, will update the material as well like they do for errata.
So does anyone know if the Eberon is a $20 for the playtest and when they update/release the final book you'll need to pay to purchase the full book as well, or $20 and when the other materials not included currently (like the artificer) are released this package will be updated to include them?

On DMsGuild, the book is the official book somfar, and will receive update as they add missing content. Maybe, and only maybe, in the future, WotC may release a new book and Eberron, but so far Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberron is the only release we’ll have.
Now, as far as D&D Beyond is concerned, I hope they’ll follow WotC process, and update the content of WGtE as part of errata.

In another thread, BadEye has stated that DDB will update content accordingly. So if you purchase this, you have Warforged, and you will get the most up-to-date version of the Warforged.
Mike Mearls on Twitter stated that this copy will be updated as the playtest continues.
However, once final there may be a final hardcover publication, content within that which was not in the playtests would presumably not be automatic.

So the question is, does our $20 go towards the cost of the final book? If the final book is $40 and includes X + Y, do we have to pay the full $40 (for $60 total) or do we only pay an additional $20?

Just out of idle curiosity... and I am not anyone special here... what would your reaction be if their response was "You get a 25%" discount? Or a $5 one? Instead of the full cost, I mean?

If the content of WGtE = X, and X is worth $20, and the final book has content equal to X + Y, then if X is already valued at $20, the final book price should be $20 + the value of Y, and the final cost to those of us who bought WGtE should be less $20.
If the final book is X - Q + Y, then the price should reflect that.

I disagree but entirely respect your thought process and, as such, feel no need to press the issue. Thank you for elaborating. :)
If they released a new version of the PHB that had a new chapter on Psionics, but released as a new book, perhaps called "Ultimate Players Handbook" and the only difference was the chapter on Psionics, would you be willing to pay full-price for that "new" PHB for the extra chapter?

I feel like that example is far too different than what we're facing here to be relevant. I also never said I'd want to pay full-price, but was discussing how much of a discount was reasonable. I only disagree on wanting the full price of the book as a discount. Personally, I'd be fine with 25% or some thereabouts. Maybe some cool rewards (themes, backgrounds, etc.) for being an early supporter.
So from what I'm getting from everything I'm reading it's going to go something like this.
$20 for the official playtest material. This will update as the playtest goes throughout. Then when the final book comes out, this content from this playtest will update to what is in the final book, with the exception of anything that wasn't here to begin with.
So for things like the Artificer class (which is not included in this material), people would then go into the marketplace and purchase just that material (just like how we can buy only specific parts from books as it already is), so that in the end people aren't charged twice.
Does that sound like how other people are understanding it?

No, from my understanding, you buy WGtE and it's the final book, but when artificer will be added, and/or other content will be modified, it will be updated without further purchase. At least this is how it will happen on DMs Guild. And so far D&D Beyond staff said they will do the same.

Sort of. By Mike Mearls' tweets, they're making it sound like the final D&D Beyond product won't be a "True" Eberron book as much as it will be a second one to compliment this one.
Also, he's confirmed that, when Artificer comes, it will be retroactively added to the current Eberron book.

In fact the exact quote is: "If we do an Eberron print product, we will design it to complement as much as possible what the PDF presents." An Eberron printed product is not guarantee to happen. For now WGtE is the Eberron book, and its fluff cover Sharn. Possible future Eberron books might cover other regions and/or be adventure, but remain pure speculation for the moment.

Your view's valid and 100% makes sense.
Sorry, I maybe wasn't clear. I also agree that we should not get the entire book for free if it costs more than $20. If the final book costs more, I think we should get credit for what we've already paid. So if the final book is $30 in the market, we should only have to pay an extra $10 to unlock the rest.

Both Mearls and Badeye have been clear that the material in WGTE will be updated and will eventually be sealed/a final product. When this happens a) folks will be able to POD at DMsGuild and b) will continue to have access to WGTE material here if they bought it here (unlike free UA releases that will be removed from DDB when they "expire"). The advantage of buying here (if one is so inclined to purchase somewhere) is that if WOTC does eventually release a complimentary book that reprints a lot of the crunch from WGTE, interested parties here only need to buy the new bits piecemeal, not the entirety of the new book. [As an aside: in some ways, their plan to reprint crunch is consistent with what they are already doing. Not everyone is happy with that choice, of course, and there are times I find it annoying/aggravating. On the other hand, I run TOA and have the adventure here, but I don't have Volo's here. Having all the monsters from Volo's which are in TOA available is really nice, and saves me from trying to figure out which ones they are and buy them separately. ]
Personally, I think both Wizards and DDB could have been a lot clearer about the specifics of this model when they released details. I do appreciate DDB's quick response to make things clearer on the marketplace. That said, I don't have a problem with the model itself, although I can certainly understand the perspective of those who find it galling. Not planning on purchasing soon, as I have a limited budget for my DnD spending and other things are higher priority for me at the moment. But I am beginning to think about seeing if my regular crew is interested in an Eberron adventure when we are done with TOA. (Which will be a while...)
