Yes, this is allowed and intended. There are a few things to keep in mind:

• You can't use the old version of a subclass that has a new 2024 version. For instance, if you select the 2024 Fighter class, you can't use the 2014 version of the Battle Master subclass; you have to use the 2024 version. However, you can use the old versions of subclasses that don't (yet) have a 2024 version.
• Under 2024 rules, all classes get their subclass selection at level 3. If you're using an older subclass for a class that used to get their subclass at level 1 (Cleric, Sorcerer, Warlock) or level 2 (Druid, Wizard) then any features it grants at level 1 or 2 should be granted at level 3 instead. D&D Beyond's character builder mostly handles this just fine.
• Some older Cleric subclasses granted weapon and/or armor proficiencies at level 1. This should just be ignored; the new Cleric class's "Divine Order" feature at level 1 handles it instead. Likewise, old Cleric subclasses with a "Divine Strike" or "Potent Spellcasting" feature should have those ignored as well as the base class provides a feature to handle it now.
• As of this writing, D&D Beyond doesn't properly support older Paladin subclasses on the 2024 Paladin class yet. The always-prepared spells and some of the Channel Divinity options don't work correctly.
• D&D Beyond does not yet allow any third-party subclasses to be used with 2024 classes. The rules do allow this, but D&D Beyond hasn't implemented it yet.

Exception being those from the Griffon's Saddlebag.
