It was 1979, I was 7, his name was Finn, an elf fighter/magic user using a copy of 0e with Chainmail combat that my friends older brother gave us. The experience even got me to later write my own 0e/Chainmail clone. Needless to say, it has been a lifelong obsession.

...This thread is about what you’re first EVER Dungeons & Dragons character that you have played in a campaign or one-shot. ...
Nameless Elf War-Wizard elf handbook. Fighter-Wizard AD&D style. Her name I will not write because I was an idiot back then and thought Why not name the character after the first thing I saw when opening my eyes. I saw a can of something, reversed the name and went a year not realizing what I was saying. I was dense as a brick back then.
The setting was Greyhawk, my character was a Valley Elf and LE.
note technically this was my 4th character.
1st (1986ish) don't remember was in HS lunch time for 30 minutes once during Chess Club. As one member tried to get us all to play D&D. I wasn't really vibbing with it.
2nd 30 minutes in a Darkstar comic book shop Huntington Beach Ca in 1997, the DM handed me an Elf with fireball, no explination nothing. first fight boom Fireball in a dungeon hallway.
3rd 2000 friend DM, ugh. Made a Kensai and a Psion he killed both in two differant starter sessions. He was an ego freak for a DM.
4th 2002 the one that actually got me hooked. That was a fun game, my toxic friend was not involved, I started at level 1, no fireball in a hallway, still 2nd ed AD&D but it was a lot of fun.
Didn't do 3.0 at all got heavily into 3.5 and 4.0 around 2007~2010. Me DMing started in 4th, as I was willing.
My first D&D character was a 2nd Edition human cleric in an all-evil party where all the players and GM were teenagers. Most people are surprised that I ever played another game, but as I was the only character who had access to healing spells I was the one who got left alone.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Fighter (AD&D) like most people
