Several weeks ago they briefly released a new (and, honestly, pretty awful) version of the menus at the top of the site before rolling it back very quickly due to some technical issue. I expect we'll see that, or some version of it, get rolled out again at some point relatively soon, though there's been no formal announcement.
They've also said they're deploying an overhaul of of the "Sources" screen on December 17. See here.
Apparently I've got an updated front-page on the site but the old drop-down menus... so... no idea what's going on but yeah: UI design lately has not been great... see a prior rant I did about how awful the new Marketplace page is.

You're seeing what you should be seeing. The navigation update was walked back and hasn't been redone again. Just the way the front page looks is what got updated.

I really liked how the old home page had the articles and news. The new home page feels like mostly either links to tools or advertisements. Is there a news page that encompasses the contents of the old home page?

I'm only wondering as the difference between the older UI and the new homepage UI are so very different that it almost jarring between the two.
