So has anyone else tried the new Quick Builder for characters? Looks pretty decent, nice summaries of the various races and classes, three or four decisions and instant character sheet. I’ve always thought character creation is a good way to teach new players how the game works but I also appreciate it’s overwhelming for new players who just want to get to playing so this could be a good alternative to pregen characters where they at least get to make the big choices
Haven't tried it, but it would have been amazing when I was having to on-board new players every couple of weeks over text in Discord. So many hours spent trying to help them understand their choices. Sounds like it would be great for me if that happens again - just get their character sorted and teach the rules as they go.

Really great feature, though I can't figure out how to get shared content to show up in it. It doesn't seem to have shared stuff in it by default, and I can't find a way to get to it from within a campaign.
I put together a character and it did pretty well. I had one quibble where it gave me multiple odd numbers in ability scores that really should have been adjusted a bit to make at least one of them even. But that might just be the optimizer in me as it was still a very playable character.
I did find it a little strange that I had to go manually equip the gear. It gave me the right gear (I made a barbarian), just it said my only action was an unarmed strike, so I had to go click to make the greataxe ready. Which was fine for me, but for a new player, I could imagine it being a bit confusing. Also strange that there was no armor, which I know is the barbarian’s thing and I guess they don’t get any in starting gear, but they usually have on some, particularly at low levels. And I had 0 starting gold. Which is wrong.

I think they’re using the suggested standard array per class from the PHB and the +1 to three stats from backgrounds which is why it ends up with so many odd numbers. Probably an easy thing to fix nice the character is created

I think it went +2/+1, as it gave me a 17 str. I’m guessing it used array, but the 14 in con and fave it the +1, and a 13 dex. Where I’d have preferred th both to be 14’s instead of a 13 and 15. Still fine and very playable, and a new player probably wouldn’t even notice the difference. Just a minor quibble from someone who obsesses about getting even numbers.
It's slick, and made a lot of the choices I would have made myself. It's not terribly difficult to go in to the builder and adjust once someone has most of the character built, too.
The one thing I raised an eyebrow at was the placement of wizard and sorcerer in terms of complexity. Perhaps I look at it differently, but I think wizard is a bit more complex than a sorcerer (many more decision points... i.e. every LR), but they have wizard as "medium" difficulty and sorcerer as "hard" difficulty. For new players wanting to play a caster, I usually encourage them to play sorcerer over wizard. Am I just weird?

Where do we find this?
On the website to Play D&D and you’ll see “character creation”, click that and I’ll give you the options for Standard and Pre-made but in between them is Quick Build which has a “New” tag on it. In the app you can go to Characters and create character, you’ll get the option for “pre-made” or “custom” and if you choose custom it gives you the standard or quick build options

Nope I thought the same when they printed the list in the 2024 PHB of difficulty. They also put Warlocks as hard despite me always thinking they’re a very easy class to play (a bit trickier to build though) but Sorcerers have a much smaller spell list so a lot less options than a Wizard which surely has to qualify them as easier

2). Under CHARACTER CREATION METHOD, you should see QUICKBUILDER as option 2 of 3 in the middle - has a picture of a Dragonborn Noble Genie Paladin.

I can't see you tube, is there any other way to access it?
It is, unsurprisingly, in the Character Builder 😂
I actually looked there 1st. I don't see it, but maybe I am blind. I have 3 pictures with my characters/my campaigns/maps vtt then a list of small font words, - mobile app/discord bot/three lines of "homebrew"/encounters/my dice
It seems good for quick set ups but does need somebody with a little bit of knowledge to check stuff. For instance it won't take spells granted by species into account which can result in the spell being selected twice. In my case the Light spell from Aasimar was also selected for the Wizard spells resulting in double-entry and waste of cantrip choice. Beyond that, seems nifty.

I gave it a shot and I think it's well designed, clear, and accessible. It can certainly get a new player to a level 1 character quickly.
Also if it's a sign of things to come as far as the character builder overhaul, I'm optimistically excited.

It brought the Party Wizard back, so I'm happy
