I'm curious about if there's anything from the printed books that we can expect will NOT be included in the release version of Beyond? Will anything be left as a print exclusive, or will the full text of each book be available somehow?(either through subscription or digital purchase, however that turns out)
One caveat I would like to bring up (but I am still looking for the answer for this in these forums). I don't think allpublished content will be made digital. At least it isn't right now. Search for a demilich in the monsters list. It isn't there? Why? Because the material in DnD Beyond tool is Open Gaming License Content and only contains material in the SRD.
So, no. Not everything in the printed books will be included in this tool IFthis tool continues to be subject to the OGL.
Other indications of OGL: Backgrounds (or lack of them), class career paths, missing spells, etc.
StormKight, you are a moderator here. Is this correct? Is there an explanation regarding the OGL content on this tool?
So far, the only reference I have found to the OGL is listed on the Compendium main page. It says at the top: "This section contains the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Rules and the rules in the SRD5.1, released as part of the OGL1.0a." No other section says that, so I am hoping I am wrong and Wizards will be including protected content on DnD Beyond. But if they don't, oh well.
My point was rather hair-splitting... sorry. I got wrapped up in the phrase "everything printed". Everything printed in the SRD, it seems.

What it is important to understand is that this app is still in the beta. It is still one third of the final product and until that product is released what we get is what is in the SRD and the Basic Rules, which are the free part of D&D.
The final product will include everything is printed. The price for that is still to be announced.
Right now WotC has given DDB permission to use the SRD (as all people have) and the Basic Rules PHB and DMG. This is the first time (to my knowledge) any tool has been given permission to allow users to use the basic rules free of charge. This is a huge step for WotC in my opinion. But yes, upon release of the tools in Summer 2017 Dungeons and Dragons Beyond will include every official WotC D&D book/online publication at a fee that is to be determined. That is the goal.

It is my understanding that everything printed will be digital as well.
Filcat is correct!

That sounds fantastic!
My guess is while most artwork may be included it is possible that some would not. Content wise everything should be there.
Given the differences in format, it doesn't always make sense for the artwork to move across to digital format. :)

Cool. Thanks for that insight, filcat and subsistcyber. That helps me understand the process and WotC's intent. I appreciate it.
