Besides content sharing, I can't figure out the use. I've created one for a session I'm going to run with my family. Looks like it's a name, description, and a list of characters. Maybe I can't see anything because none of my players have joined yet? Am I missing something or is it just content sharing and a place to store all the player links?
That's almost all that campaigns do. Campaigns also allow you to put in some notes, but the feature is kinda shitty since they all go into a single giant text block rather than be sorted in any way.
Ok just checking. Looking forward to more coming in the future. The content sharing is a big deal for my group but even having a blog post type system where we can write formatted notes about each session would be tremendously helpful.
Where can you see the roadmap for future plans? I often see people say things are planned.
Oh for sure. I was thinking more along the lines of a running session synopsis type of thing. Similar to obsidian portal. Something that all the players can read. As it stands I will probably be using a mixture of DnDBeyond, Roll20, and Obsidian Portal. I prefer DnD Beyond to the other two from a design and content standpoint but it's just not got enough functionality for me to cut either of the other two out.
Personally, for the notes sections, I use Spoiler tags to keep things separate, and I use it to keep links to enemy stats, items, and other links that are relevant to the current story arc that I am running.

There's been a lot of suggestions for the campaign section and what DM's can use it for, one of which is what you're referring to. There's no public roadmap that DnD Beyond has shared, but better notes and communication in a campaign as well as a bunch of other stuff like a virtual DM screen and encounter builder should be coming in 2019.
It's been a year and a half since this thread was active. I recently tried using the Campaigns on DNDBeyond, but don't see much beyond what is mentioned here. Has anything changed at all since?

In terms of the Campaign page, not much yet. But there is now an Encounter Builder (DB) tool; there you can choose which campaign the encounter is for (from your list of campaigns) and it will calculate difficultly level for you. The EB is in beta but available to everyone and quite usable. The related Combat Tracker (CT) is currently in alpha and therefore only available to subscribers. Once it hits beta it will be available to everyone. The CT allows you to run the encounters you have created. Currently the Combat Tracker lets you:
-enter player's rolled initiative
-auto roll or enter monster initiative
-see and track monster HP
-track player HP if you enter their starting HP manually (eventually this info will be pulled from their sheets)
-track rounds
-see monster stat block in a side panel when you click on it in the initiative order
-provide treasure and encounter notes
You cannot currently see the character sheets from within the CT, nor can you track monster spell slots or the like. Those things are on the list to add.
There are a LOT of things on the roadmap, plus WOTC keeps dropping new titles with new mechanics that have to be added. The latter is a great thing for the game, but it does mean DDB coding resources sometimes have to be shifted away from other projects to dealing with the new mechanics. An additional piece to the length of time it is taking to get to this is that the site/service was originally built on a monolithic service that was already obsolete or near obsolete at the time DDB started coding. (It was what they had available at the time) DDB usage grew far faster than they anticipated (Yeah!); it became obvious to them that the monolith they were working with wasn't going to be able to handle continued growth and was complicating adding new mechanics and features. So behind the scenes they have been "deconstructing the monolith" and moving to microservices for the various parts. The EB and CT are the first services built from the ground up "outside" of the monolith. For the last 9+ months they have also been working on a new character sheet framework outside of the monolith. The alpha for that is up and they've added most subscribers to it. The sheet doesn't actually look different from our end, but the backend is different. They are still ironing out some kinks in it (mostly related to issues displaying homebrew correctly), but they have made good progress.

They do have more campaign features on the way, but yeah as of right now it's just that.
The DM campaign features (right now) are meh. Mostly it is for DMs too see and make changes to players' characters.

You can keep separate notes. I think a lot of DMs use OneNote.

AdmiralChry's Homebrew Compendium - A collection of all my classes, subclasses, magic items, and etc.
That's awesome. It's crazy to see how much this has grown from the first time it hit my radar. I'm excited for that is to come.

You can build an encounter with your party in the campaign and run it using the combat tracker.
