I'd choose Animate Dead just so I could walk around with an undead servant and see the look on people's faces. Also so I could go to museums and animate medium sized dinos.
Edit: Totally didn't realize you said only cantrip or 1st level spells
Also not sure the dinosaurs aren't clay and plastic :)
The real problem with fossils is that they aren't the bones.

That's true too. The spell says you can choose a pile of bones--at what point would a fossilizing bone become 'not enough bone' to be animated?
The fact I was pointing out is that in many museums, you're not even looking at fossils, but plaster casts made from fossils. (And definitely not the skin and muscle looking parts, those are plastics and clays.)
Animate Object would get you dinosaurs, but that's 5th level, and the arbitrary level limit I picked was 1st :)
Mending would be nice. You could make a good living with it too.
I skipped a lot of these because there's no way to deploy them covertly. I might have the ability to use this power at will, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to use any of them publicly or professionally.
I have little enough faith in Humanity - I don't want to end up burned at the stake :p
You could maybe use Mending covertly, though: "Let me take this to the workshop out back, see what I can do ... "

I agree. My unseen servant, well, would be 'unseen', but I'd also probably mostly use it around the house. Or maybe to drive my car while I read, but then I can just claim these days it's 'self-driving' :)
Mending would be a tempting one, though. I could open a bike shop and become known as the guy who can fix anything. I could be happy with that life.
well it doesn't truly fit with what you specified as they aren't spells but if psionics are involved would a psychic focus be alright? the mystic v3's nomadic mind disciplines psychic focus is
Whenever you focus on this discipline, you choose one skill or tool and have proficiency with it until your focus ends. Alternatively, you gain the ability to read and write one language of your choice until your focus ends
i think it would be possible to pass this off as being a prodigy but still give huge amounts of use

Comprehend Languages would be my choice. You can watch any foreign language tv show or movie without needing subtitles and same goes with any sort of play or performance that you go see in another country, being able to watch and know what's going on without needing a translation guide. You can read any physical foreign language book or newspaper, though I don't know if this would still work with reading anything on the internet or playing foreign language games unless you can just touch the screen of your computer/phone/tablet/TV/device and be able to understand what is written on the screen. But you could easily make a living doing subtitles for foreign language tv shows/movies or translating physical foreign language books into English word for word. You can also listen to foreign language music and be able to understand the lyrics without a translation, another way to make a living by translating those songs into English. Of course this could all be done for fun and free too if you want to avoid being caught as well.
I would choose goodberry, because I would never starve. That or heroism so I could finally go on rollercoasters.

Why do ships ship cargo and cars carry shipments? Why do we have fingertips but not toetips and can tiptoe but can't tipfinger. These are all the questions of the universe.
As a former teacher the 2 spells I really wanted were silence and hold person! But they are L2 spells - Darn! Comp. Lang. Is definitely a contender but minor illusion and silent image would have been great in the classroom as well.
That's the setup: you have one cantrip or 1st level spell, any class, that you would get to cast at will in the real world (as a 1st level caster).
Which one is it?
Sometimes, when I'm feeling lazy...it would be Unseen Servant.
I would probably pick Silvery Barbs because it gives me advantage on my rolls, and those that might beat me at anything would have less luck and lower rolls. What a win-win situation! I would totaaally use this spell for the betterment of the realm!
Magic Missile is another interesting option, because it always hits and you have a 63/64 chance that you'll kill a commoner with it, which is awesome because you have a much higher chance of defeating multiple opponents than you do of defeating none. The spell would be great in combat, but there is a lot less of that in real life than in D&D adventures so it wouldn't necessarily be too overpowered.
Honestly, me having D&D spells IRL would probably be a disaster for the world. I would certainly create a lot of mayhem and it would be way too much responsibility. Also, I have a feeling that literally every government would take people to labs or something if they were able to use magic.

HERE.Unseen Servant is just an absolute win all around;
- Clean Dishes
- Clean Room
- Clean Clothes
- Drive to work
- Small repairs around the house
- Cook dinner
- Refill Drinks
- Bring in Groceries
List goes on.
Clone of course. Because then I'd be functionally immortal.
