Again, I’m very curious what crime you think was committed.
if you want to sue, start a class action lawsuit. It will probably not go anywhere, but if it gets big enough it might make them think next time. (this would also cost a lot of money, but alas). I personally would not sue, but if you are going to, I would recommend that. Also I am not a lawyer and you should by no means listen to my advice on anything law related and think I know what i am talking about.
§1125. False designations of origin, false descriptions, and dilution forbidden(a) Civil action
(1) Any person who, on or in connection with any goods or services, or any container for goods, uses in commerce any word, term, name, symbol, or device, or any combination thereof, or any false designation of origin, false or misleading description of fact, or false or misleading representation of fact, which—
(A) is likely to cause confusion, or to cause mistake, or to deceive as to the affiliation, connection, or association of such person with another person, or as to the origin, sponsorship, or approval of his or her goods, services, or commercial activities by another person, or
(B) in commercial advertising or promotion, misrepresents the nature, characteristics, qualities, or geographic origin of his or her or another person's goods, services, or commercial activities,
shall be liable in a civil action by any person who believes that he or she is or is likely to be damaged by such act.
What I find interesting about this whole debacle isn't whether there is any criminality or not, but how this goes against WotC's stated intentions with errata/republishing.
Actual errata is so rare because WotC doesn't want to step on the toes of people whom have purchased prior versions of things, so why break from that principle now? Would it really have been so hard to just leave the WGtE race templates as variants? 🙄

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.

They’re doing things differently here because (a) they announced that the stuff in Wayfinder’s was still being tested at its release, and (b), it’s not a print document, so no one ends up stuck with the old version.
a) No, they didn't. It was not advertised as test/unofficial until after people had already purchased.
b) Yes, it is. In the digital age, a published document is regarded with the same industry standard whether the document is digital or physical. PDF downloads of books are still versioned. Digital distribution simply makes it easier to publish updated versions with less overhead expense incurred by doing so.

While this is true, that was an issue on DDB and not with WotC. And it was quickly changed on the DDB marketplace to reflect the playtest nature of the content. That being said, it's been well over a year since WGtE's release, so it is reasonable for people to have assumed that the versions they were using were final. I realize that there's been tons of talk about how that wasn't the case, but not everyone stays up to date on what's going on with that sort of stuff. So I can understand why people might be miffed at the sudden changes.
Further proof to my mind that the "living document" form of release that WotC has gone for here has been less than ideal on either side of the transaction.
I'm still of the opinion that RftLW was in development before WGtE was released and that this staggered and odd way of going about it was a way of hedging their bets. I won't be buying another living document again. If nothing else, it still "feels" slimy. I'm not a fan of how it's gone down.
But, looking at the content that's available between both books, if I ask myself the question, "Would I have paid $50 for that amount of content for an Eberron setting.", my answer is yes. Probably. I mean, I haven't had $50 free dollars to spend that way in quite some time. But would I be willing to if I had it? Yeah, I think so.
I'm still mad they cut two subclasses from the Artificer out of WGtE though. A very un-cool move.

All you have to do is email customer support here if you bought WGtE here and be a decent person making a complaint. They'll refund you or find a way to make it right. The CS here has always been top notch with me.

Where did you buy a pdf copy?
dmsguild sells Wayfinder's as a PDF.
EDIT: Huh. Apparently I can't link to dmsguild here. Well, it's easy to find there, just search for Wayfinder.
The sad thing for me is how much of a money grab the new book comes across as but what makes it worse is the new book - Eberron: Rising from the Last war is just a lesser book for entertainment, RP and races. Best to stick with Wayfinders and just some small parts of Eberron: RftLW

Not sure I follow you there. Practically all the content from Wayfinder's is in Rising.
Not sure whats hard to follow. A reprint for the money grab and it's no where near as good/interesting as wayfinders. Might as well been called Eberron: Diluted Wayfinders guide.

This is what I'm not following. Rising is literally Wayfinder's + more stuff. How can Wayfinder's be the more interesting product?

O! The long and storied tradition of threatening a civil lawsuit over Dungeons & Dragons rules changes. I expect nothing less.

I think they're still litigating the release of 4th Edition. I heard it's going all the way up to The Hague.
