After spending $200 just so I can build my characters sheets online, I have to see banner ads? Seems pretty greedy and not very customer focused.
Also, I only get to have 6 characters built at a time? What is that? It should be possible to have more, why the limitation. Im paying you for a service, and I'm very disappointed.
They tie the ads and character limit into a subscription service rather than the more static purchases. I also agree that it is dumb, but that is what is on offer.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Maybe properly reading how a service works before dumping 200$ into it and then complain might be a good idea, but I might be wrong...
One could also contend that being able to spend $200 while being unsure of what you are buying means that the explanations for what is being purchased are unclear. Or that the notifications are not doing a proper job setting customer expectations.

Fair point, but it is not stated anywhere in the marketplace page that any purchase would give the user the right to more character slots or the absence of ads, while both these things are clearly stated in the subscription page, which also highlights the limitations of a non-subscription account.
I agree that a clear "FAQ" page with a link in the homepage of the website would be very useful (for a number of reasons, not just issues like this), but still, if you are willing and able to spend 200$ on something, make sure it's what you want and that it works as you think it does before spending them, no?
@Stormknight & Badeye: Perhaps a potential solution is to sell "character sheet packs"? Then you can still have the subscriber tier with unlimited character sheets, but people could buy character sheet "packs" of maybe 6 character sheets for $0.99, or 25 for $3.99?

Please, no. Something like $49.99 (completely random guess) for unlimited character slots and $1/month off subscriptions, yes, but not that.

Not being snarky and out of interest - what do people need more than 6 character slots for?
Playing in more than 6 games; creating theoretical/conceptual characters; testing the character builder; half a dozen things I can't properly articulate off the top of my head. . .

It's unlikely they would do this. Other than not seeing ads, or "adding home brew content to your collection", the only other real reason for the subscription is unlimited character sheets. For $49.99 a user would get basically the equivalent of two years of subscription, so it only guarantees DDB that two years of revenue. How many people really care about not seeing ads (just use Ad Block?) or adding public homebrew?

Hi all,
you should never see adverts on content you have paid for - by this I mean content in the compendium.
You will still see adverts on the tools, such as the character builder, unless you have a current subscription.
