Probably Half-Elves because they are so versatile.

I'm a big fan of Kenku, Tabaxi, and Lizardfolk. Of the PHB races, I tend to favor humans for the versatility and the occasional Dragonborn or Tiefling or something. I'm sort of past caring about Elves, Dwarves, and Halfings at this point. They just don't feel evocative enough to me.
Playable 5e races? Wood Elf. Scourge Aasimar. Water Genasi. Fire Genasi. I really like what 5e did with Gnomes. I think Human Variant, Bugbear, Half Orc, and Half Elf are a bit unbalancing -- these races are too-unrealistic in terms of stats gained in terms of how the in-game mechanics play out.
Non-playable? Gnoll. Dinosaur humanoids like the Saurial. Construct humanoids like Warforged, Half-golem, and Alias.
Halflings, for when you absolutely have to have someone carry a cursed ring somewhere.

I like A LOT of races, especially Kenku, Tabaxi, and Half-Elves mostly for aesthetic or cultural/social reasons... what I end up playing most in the end are Humans though XD (those very few times I get to play instead of DMing)
When I DM, most of my antagonists and notable adversaries (which I almost always create as you would a PC) are Human, Elves or Tiefling (lately at least).

I love Gnomes, for their upbeat personalities and terrible puns. They're so adorable and so fun to play~
But I also have a huge huge softspot for evil, or at least perceived-evil races, like Gnolls, Illithid, Kobolds, and to an extent Tieflings and Half-Orc, even though I never play fully evil characters. There's something really appealing to me about playing a character that for its own reasons has the conscious desire to be good- but who constantly has to fight with a deep inner evil, or monstrous appetite, or with an innate perspective that makes evil just seem like the rational and easy course. I... I love conflicted characters and inner monsters. x_x
Kenku and Aarakocra get honorable mentions for pure aesthetic.
I think I might change my race to kenku. They are fun to roleplay.

I have a severe bias towards using halflings. I've also used a gnome. Both races are little, joyful groups with a lot of personality. They just seem fun to me. I think a taxabi would be cool.
The most fun characters I've played (or created on deck to play) are drow, firbolg, half-orc and air genasi. I usually play nonhuman characters and tend to prefer the more exotic races.
I've only been playing for a year so I haven't had too much opportunity to play many races, but apart from my human paladin campaign character (I know! So cliche!) I've played and really enjoyed a halfling cleric and a tabaxi ranger while playing one shots! However something is really drawing me to try a Hobgoblin War Wizard (not actually seen this sub class from Xanathars Guide yet, but sounds awesome!) Who's on leave from the Devastation Academy to interact with other races and see how else magic would be used to further advance Goblinoids both in and out of battle.
Just wondering, what's everyone's favorite race in DND and why.
Marvarax and Sora (Dragonborn) The retired fighter and WIP scholar - Glory
Brythel(Dwarf), The dwarf with a gun - survival at sea
Jaylin(Human), Paladin of Lathander's Ancient ways - The Seven Saints (Azura Claw)
Urselles(Goblin), Cleric of Eldath- The Wizard's challenge
Viclas Tyrin(Half Elf), Student of the Elven arts- Indrafatmoko's Defiance in Phlan
Probably Half-Elves because they are so versatile.

Elves. I've always liked elves.

Dwarves are my favorite. I just really love everything about the Dwarves.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.

Aasimar, because they’re essentially half-angels with more RP flexibility. (Yes, I know they are not technically half-angels)

Tough question! I don't really have a go-to race.

Dwarves, i like being gruff and still good-hearted, strong, and a hard worker who knows how to indulge
How do you get a one-armed goblin out of a tree?
Wave!
It's a tough one. I think it depends highly on the DM or type of group. Probably Half-Elf for me as I find them versatile and fun to play.
